China to Build 800 Million Mu of High-Standard Farmland, Creating Opportunities for Construction Machinery
Recently, the State Council approved the National Overall Plan for High-Standard Farmland Construction. In interpreting the Plan, a responsible official of the National Development and Reform Commission stated that since about two-thirds of China's arable land is medium- and low-yield, it is necessary to formulate a unified national overall plan for high-standard farmland construction to further consolidate the material foundation for grain and agricultural development. Taking into comprehensive account the current conditions of medium- and low-yield farmland, water resource conditions, and the grain supply and demand situation, the Plan proposes building 800 million mu of concentrated, contiguous high-standard farmland that ensures stable yields despite drought or excessive rain by 2020, of which 400 million mu will be completed during the 12th Five-Year Plan period.
