On September 11, the first pile of the main bridge of the Yichang Changjiangxi Bridge New Construction and Two-Bank Connecting Road Project, a key project in Yichang invested and constructed by Yichang Chengfa and built by China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group, was successfully drilled.

This marks the official start of the project's main construction and its full entry into the substantive construction phase.

The scope of the Changjiangxi Bridge New Construction and Two-Bank Connecting Road Project covers the main bridge structure, connecting roads on both banks and related supporting facilities, and a new Changjiangxi Bridge will be built to replace the old bridge. The project starts in the south at the intersection of Zhenping Road, Mianyangshan Road and Shangdaodi Road in Xiling District, runs north along the existing Zhenping Road for widening and reconstruction, crosses the Huangbai River to connect to Pinghu Peninsula, and ends at the Leizu Temple Scenic Area, connecting with National Highway G348, with a total length of about 2.63 kilometers. The main bridge is 455 meters long, with a main span of 240 meters, a deck width of 30.3 meters and a main tower height of 140.8 meters; it is a single-tower cable-stayed bridge. The main tower adopts a tower-girder fixed system, and the main girder adopts a hybrid "steel box girder + concrete girder" structure. The structural design is scientific and reasonable, and the bridge has a grand and novel appearance.

Since entering the site and starting construction, the project department has overcome difficulties, tackled key problems and advanced work in a coordinated manner, efficiently completing the construction of temporary water facilities such as the south bank trestle and the drilling operation platform. All indicators meet design specifications and the conditions for bored pile construction are in place. In response to multiple challenges such as complex water construction conditions, overlap between the main tower pile foundation and the old bridge pile foundation, great difficulty in external coordination and frequent passage of Three Gorges cruise ships, the project department has scientifically planned the construction deployment, rationally allocated human, machinery and material resources, refined special construction plans, and regularly carried out technical briefings, safety training and emergency drills. It has proactively coordinated with local governments at all levels, maritime authorities, the owner, the supervisor and the design unit, strictly implemented water navigation safety control requirements, and built a full safety production defense line, laying a solid foundation for the smooth drilling of the first pile.

The project Party branch has closely focused on the Party building theme of "Red Party Flag at Changjiangxi Bridge, Iron Army of Bridge Builders Striving to Be Pioneers," solidly advanced the creation of Party member pioneer posts and red-flag responsibility areas, and continuously promoted the deep integration of Party building work with safety and environmental protection, project quality and production progress. All project staff have taken the initiative and strived to be first, vigorously carried forward the "Four Special" spirit of the iron army of bridge builders, adhered to scientific organization and refined management, strictly observed the three bottom lines of safety production, project quality and ecological environmental protection, paid close attention to the prevention and control of integrity risks, and gone all out to promote efficient and orderly project construction.

The start is the decisive battle, and the beginning is the sprint. Next, the project department will take the drilling of the first pile as a new starting point, continue to maintain a vigorous and enterprising momentum, firmly compact and implement the main responsibility for safety, anchor node targets, strictly control project quality, strictly observe the safety red line, and advance pile foundation and substructure construction with high standards, high efficiency and high quality. It will strive to build a safe, high-quality, green and environmentally friendly, clean and efficient benchmark project, fully demonstrate the responsibility of a central state-owned enterprise, and contribute the strength of the iron army of bridge builders to the high-quality development of Yichang's urban infrastructure.

After the project is completed, it will fully open a fast connection channel between Yichang's central urban area and Pinghu Peninsula and effectively improve navigation conditions in the Huangbai River section of the Three Gorges International Cruise route. It is a key hub project serving the Gezhouba shipping capacity expansion project and ensuring the construction of the new Three Gorges water transport corridor, and will play an important role in promoting the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and consolidating Yichang's position as the core city of the Western Hubei Ecological and Cultural Tourism Circle.
