On August 30, 2026, the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway reconstruction project achieved a major milestone: the Huangjueping Double-Track Grand Bridge, the longest bridge on the entire line, constructed by China Railway No. 8 Engineering Group, was successfully closed, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent construction of the project.

The Chengdu-Chongqing Railway is the first railway of New China. Since its completion and opening to traffic in 1952, it has consistently served the important functions of personnel exchange and material flow between Sichuan and Chongqing, and is a key transportation artery supporting the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing region. The reconstruction project of the Chongqing-Jiangjin section starts at Jiangjin Station in Chongqing, extends eastward along the existing railway corridor, passes through Jiulongpo, Dadukou and other districts, and terminates at Chongqing Station. Through a series of renovations including curve straightening, adding double tracks, optimizing station layout, upgrading signaling equipment, and improving supporting facilities, the project thoroughly optimizes the traffic conditions of the Jiulong Peninsula area. After reconstruction, the total length of the line is approximately 61 kilometers.

According to Chen Yaping, head of the Chengdu-Chongqing Reconstruction Project Department of China Railway No. 8 Engineering Group, the Huangjueping Double-Track Grand Bridge closed this time is located in Jiulongpo District, Chongqing, with a total length of 754 meters. It integrates multiple functions such as railway transportation, station connection, and municipal compatibility, and is a controlling key project of the entire Chengdu-Chongqing Railway reconstruction project. The bridge is located in the core urban built-up area, with a continuous beam structure for the main span, and an elevated Huangjueping Station is simultaneously set up on the bridge. The bridge is adjacent to the city's main arterial road, with the main span crossing Zhigang Avenue and the side spans crossing Longyin Road. During the project construction period, challenges included numerous construction interference in urban areas, high risks of working at height, and great pressure on schedule control.

In response to the complex on-site conditions, the project department strictly controlled safety, quality and construction precision, comprehensively applied special techniques such as cantilever pouring with form travelers, cast-in-place construction on full scaffolding, and pier body slipform/climbing formwork, and advanced the construction of pile foundations, round-ended piers and hollow abutments to high standards. They successively overcame technical difficulties such as alignment control of cantilever-cast beams, road traffic maintenance, and cross-road safety protection. At the same time, they strengthened coordination with relevant local units to ensure the smooth progress of the bridge substructure and continuous beam construction, ensuring the completion of the Huangjueping Double-Track Grand Bridge closure milestone on schedule.

According to the head of the Chongqing Construction Command of China Railway Chengdu Group, for the reconstruction project of the Chongqing-Jiangjin section of the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway, the Jiangjin-Tongguanyi section has already achieved double-track operation. At present, the Tongguanyi-Chongqing South section is entering the final critical stage.

As a key project to optimize municipal transportation and improve the regional comprehensive transportation system, the reconstruction project of the Chongqing-Jiangjin section of the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway is an important measure to implement the national suburban railway development plan and adjust the transportation structure. The project fully revitalizes the existing railway stock assets and leverages the advantages of railway as a green, efficient, and high-capacity backbone mode of transportation. It is of great significance for smoothing regional economic circulation and serving the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin-City Economic Circle.
