Recently, as the final cubic meter of concrete was poured for pile foundation No. 6-1 on the right side of Baibeichong Bridge, all 187 bridge pile foundations across the six bridges on the Hunan Provincial 14th Five-Year Plan key project — the G107 Changsha Rongcheng Arterial Road Project (Yuhua District, Sanziqiang to Zhaoyun Road Section) (hereinafter referred to as the "G107 Project") — have been completed, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent construction of pile caps, pier columns, bent caps, and box girder erection.

Phase I of the G107 Project has a total length of 9.102 kilometers, and the largest pile diameter of the bridges along the entire line reaches 2.6 meters. It is reported that pile foundations, as the underground roots of bridges, are typical concealed works that directly affect the overall structural safety and service life of bridges. The project site features complex geological conditions, abundant groundwater, and developed rock fissures; combined with cross-operation of multiple processes, various quality and safety risks lurk underground, making construction control difficult. Any oversight in any link could plant hidden engineering hazards.

"To safeguard the bottom line of project quality and safety, we adhere to combining supervision with service, strengthening inspection, guidance, and technical services around raw material quality, construction plans, and construction techniques, and promoting the early resolution of quality risks in concealed works," said a responsible person from the Changsha Transportation Construction Quality and Safety Supervision Station. In the early stage of the project, the focus was on reviewing construction plans and control measures for hazardous and major projects, strengthening quality supervision of incoming raw materials, and urging participating units to implement technical disclosure requirements in detail, thereby building a quality defense line from the source.

During construction, the station went down to the construction site through daily patrols and "four noes and two straights" inspections, carried out supervision and inspection of key processes such as hole formation, fabrication and installation of reinforcement cages, and concrete pouring, and simultaneously provided technical service guidance to promote the implementation of quality and safety control requirements. After pile foundation construction was completed, the station urged the construction unit to conduct pile integrity testing and verify pile quality based on test data to prevent hidden quality defects.

The completion of pile foundation construction along the entire line marks the project's full shift to superstructure construction of the bridges. New processes such as girder erection and hoisting and prestressed tensioning will become the focus of project construction, and various construction risks will also change accordingly. The Changsha Transportation Construction Quality and Safety Supervision Station stated that next it will continue to keep a close eye on hazardous and major projects and key construction processes, maintain supervision standards and control intensity, escort the project's accelerated construction, and ensure that project construction goals are achieved on schedule.

It is understood that once completed, the project will further shorten the "time and space distance" within the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan area and add a new footnote to the integration of transportation in the region.
