Recently, the Huangyan Bridge reconstruction and expansion project reached a key milestone: construction of all bridge substructures along the entire project line has been completed, and foundation works including pile foundations, pile caps, and pier columns have fully concluded. This marks the project's official transition from the foundation construction phase to the superstructure construction phase, laying a solid foundation for the project's scheduled completion and opening to traffic.
At the construction site of the Huangyan Bridge reconstruction and expansion project, workers have begun erecting pile caps over the river, setting up formwork for cast-in-place girders, and tying rebar, with construction proceeding simultaneously across multiple work fronts. Wang Peng, construction manager of the Huangyan Bridge reconstruction and expansion project, introduced that the next main task is the cast-in-place girder construction for the main bridge, with efforts focused on completing the closure of the bridge's main span by the end of the year.
Incorporating the aesthetic design of the "New Five-Arch Bridge," the Huangyan Bridge's superstructure adopts a multi-curved-surface cast-in-place girder construction technique. The girder body features a bidirectional spatial curved surface with complex curvature variations and no uniform standard cross-section. Construction relies on precise positioning through BIM three-dimensional modeling and custom-made formwork for irregular curved surfaces. The support system must simultaneously resist vertical loads and horizontal thrust from the curved surfaces, effectively balancing bridge structural safety, traffic functionality, and the landscape effect along the Yongning River, greatly enhancing the bridge's overall appearance and the city's recognizability.
"The cast-in-place girder construction we are currently carrying out uses fair-faced concrete technology. Because it involves double-curved-surface construction, the process is quite difficult, and the overall construction time will be relatively longer," Wang Peng said.
It is understood that the Huangyan Bridge reconstruction and expansion project has a total length of 537.42 meters and integrates the local "New Five-Arch Bridge" design concept. Upon completion, it will feature seven lanes in both directions, greatly enhancing the bridge's traffic capacity and efficiency. After the project opens to traffic, it will effectively alleviate north-south traffic congestion in the urban area, break through the traffic bottleneck on both banks of the Yongning River, improve the urban road network layout, and greatly facilitate residents' daily travel.
At present, the project is progressing steadily and in an orderly manner. Next, the construction unit will seize the current favorable construction window, coordinate the advancement of superstructure construction work including box girder erection, bridge deck paving, and ancillary facility construction, strictly uphold the safety production bottom line, strictly control project construction quality, and accelerate and improve efficiency in advancing the project construction.
