Recently, the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Program "Open Call" project—"Research and Demonstration Application of Assessment and Treatment Technologies for Existing Building Structures under Groundwater Level Rebound Conditions"—was officially approved and launched. As a core member of the project, CABR Foundation, together with Beijing Municipal Road & Bridge Technology and Beijing Jiaotong University, formed a research consortium to carry out full-chain technical research targeting a major industry challenge: the safety of aging buildings induced by the continuous rise of groundwater levels.

In recent years, groundwater levels in the Beijing plain area have continued to rebound. A large number of aging buildings in the region have developed structural safety hazards such as uplift, raft cracking, wall tilting, and differential settlement, seriously threatening building service safety and urban public safety. Current conventional treatment technologies and control measures in the industry lack sufficient adaptability and targeted effectiveness, making it difficult to meet the actual needs of safety treatment for aging buildings. Leveraging its theoretical foundation and practical advantages in existing building renovation projects, and giving full play to the strengths of its central-enterprise research platform, CABR Foundation is leading two core research directions of the project: tilt and settlement control, and intelligent anti-uplift of buildings.

Relying on its own large-scale test platform, professional research team, and complete standards R&D system, CABR Foundation is making every effort to tackle core technological innovation. It focuses on the research and development of low-disturbance rectification, high-performance anti-uplift anchorage systems, and complete sets of processes, effectively overcoming the capacity shortcomings of traditional anchors, and building an integrated anti-uplift control system that can dynamically adapt to groundwater level changes and suit the narrow indoor construction scenarios of aging buildings.

This industry-academia-research collaborative effort fully demonstrates CABR Foundation's core R&D strength in geotechnical engineering and building foundation safety treatment. Next, the project team will select multiple types of typical buildings for demonstration projects, and simultaneously compile supporting technical guidelines to form standardized, replicable, and scalable complete technical solutions.

In the future, CABR Foundation will take this "Open Call" research project as an important opportunity to continue promoting the translation of research results into practice, providing core technical support in the foundation field for the capital's urban renewal and long-term building safety management.
