Amid the rhythmic roar of rotary drilling rigs, the first pile foundation of the Kaiping-Taishan section of the Guangzhou-Taishan (Guangzhou-Jiangmen Taishan) Expressway was drilled on the 4th on the left carriageway of the mainline bridge at the Luohanshan Interchange, marking the project's official entry into the substantive main construction phase.

The first pile foundation has a designed pile diameter of 1.6 meters and a pile length of 21 meters, adopting an end-bearing pile structure, and is a key load-bearing component of the Luohanshan Interchange. As the starting works of the Kaiping-Taishan section of the Guangzhou-Taishan Expressway, the Luohanshan Interchange adopts a single-loop hybrid design, with a mainline length of about 1.8 kilometers and a total of 479 bridge pile foundations required across the entire line. Once completed, the interchange will achieve efficient connection with the Zhongshan-Kaiping Expressway and the Zhongshan-Yangchun Expressway, serving as an important traffic transfer hub in the western expressway network of the Greater Bay Area.
It is worth noting that the project has introduced the concept of digital and intelligent construction, fully implementing mechanized operation of all processes for reinforcement cages at the rebar processing yard, improving work efficiency by more than 50% compared with traditional techniques. At the same time, the project has also built a remote intelligent control center based on the operating needs of the mixing station, achieving intelligent upgrading of production scheduling, which while improving construction quality and efficiency also provides solid technical support for building a safe and premium project.
The Kaiping-Taishan section of the Guangzhou-Taishan Expressway has a total length of about 51 kilometers, adopts a two-way six-lane construction standard, and has a design speed of 120 kilometers per hour, with a total of 7 interchanges and one supporting service area and one parking area each. The starting point of the project connects directly with the Enping-Kaiping section of the Zhongshan-Kaiping Expressway and crosses the Zhongshan-Yangchun Expressway in a cross shape, while the endpoint connects with the Western Coastal Expressway and National Highway G228. It is an important north-south connection channel linking the hometown of overseas Chinese in the western wing of the Greater Bay Area, and is scheduled to be completed and opened to traffic in 2029.
As an important north-south connection channel in the western wing of the Greater Bay Area, the Kaiping-Taishan section of the Guangzhou-Taishan Expressway will, once completed, effectively fill the expressway gap in southwestern Jiangmen, link up the tourism resources of the hometown of overseas Chinese, greatly shorten the travel time and distance between western Jiangmen and the core area of Guangzhou-Foshan, and provide efficient collection and distribution support for major infrastructure such as the Pearl River Delta Hub Airport and the Daguang Bay Port, holding far-reaching significance for promoting high-quality economic and social development along the route.
