Since the start of summer, the Xiajiang region has experienced sustained high temperatures, and heat waves have been rising at the construction site of the north flood discharge system (downstream section) of the Three Gorges New Waterway. The project is in a critical period of open-cut construction, with earthwork excavation, slope support, and earthwork and rock transfer overlapping across multiple processes. The schedule is tight, the rock mass is hard, the site is narrow, and control standards are stringent. Facing the test of extreme heat, all personnel of the China Anneng Third Bureau Three Gorges New Waterway training detachment have risen to the challenge and are pushing construction forward at full speed with the high-spirited stance of "fighting high temperatures, ensuring progress, and racing against the schedule."

In the heat, the project department has coordinated scientifically and adopted multiple measures, strictly upholding the three bottom lines of progress, quality, and safety. Construction adopts a staggered work schedule, reasonably adjusting working hours to avoid the extreme midday heat and effectively reducing the risk of heatstroke and fatigue-related work; heatstroke prevention supplies such as Huoxiang Zhengqi liquid and drinking water are fully provided, special high-temperature safety training is carried out regularly, and health protection runs through the entire construction process to build a solid safety defense line for frontline personnel. In view of the fact that equipment is prone to wear and tear in high temperatures, the work teams have intensified maintenance and inspection of heavy machinery such as excavators and dump trucks, carrying out comprehensive overhaul and upkeep to ensure "zero failure and high efficiency" operation under high-temperature conditions, providing solid equipment support for continuous construction.
At the construction site, machinery roars and the scene is bustling. Red excavators methodically excavate the hard granite foundation pit, dump trucks shuttle back and forth transferring earthwork and rock, and technical personnel provide full-process on-site supervision and control of slope gradient and excavation flatness, strictly controlling construction quality against design standards. Facing multiple construction obstacles such as the hard granite in the site area, the narrow and long restricted foundation pit, and intensive cross-operation, all members of the detachment have shown the drive to tackle tough problems, working day and night in shifts and fighting continuously. Relying on upgraded intelligent equipment—360° panoramic imaging leaves no blind spots in the operator's field of view, and the fully electronically controlled hydraulic system enables efficient and smooth excavation cycles—equipment performance continues to operate at a high level, and human-machine collaboration efficiency has improved significantly. The detachment steadily exceeds 1,000 cubic meters of earthwork excavation per day on average, with the highest single-day loading volume reaching 120 dump trucks, seizing valuable working faces for the subsequent box culvert structure construction and flood discharge tunnel excavation.
