From May 29 to 31, the 2026 Engineering Digital Intelligence Conference, themed "Embracing the Future: Jointly Drawing a New Blueprint for the Construction Industry's AI×BIM 2.0," was successfully held. Concurrently with the conference, representatives from the global engineering and construction industry formed delegations to conduct a dedicated study tour in Hong Kong, China, visiting the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the CIC Zero Carbon Park, and the Hong Kong Housing Bureau's Light Public Housing projects. Using a four-in-one model of "on-site visits + expert lectures + case analysis + interactive exchange," they immersed themselves in Hong Kong's benchmark practices in intelligent construction, zero-carbon buildings, and livelihood projects, building a high-level exchange bridge between the two regions.
The first stop of the study tour was the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. As a world-leading engineering and technology institution, Professor Zheng Zhanpeng, Associate Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at HKUST, together with his core research team, shared cutting-edge academic achievements in BIM, digital twins, construction robotics, and green intelligent construction, and held in-depth discussions with the delegation on the pain points of technology implementation, achieving precise alignment of industry-academia-research resources and laying an academic foundation for collaborative technological innovation between the two regions.
During the visit to the CIC Zero Carbon Park in Hong Kong, Chen Zhihao, Deputy Secretary-General of the Hong Kong Development Bureau, delivered an on-site speech and extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He clearly expressed an open attitude toward deepening cooperation between the two regions, promoting joint efforts with the mainland to build a unified digital-intelligent construction standards system for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, advancing mutual learning and sharing of experience and achievements in fields such as BIM+AI and robotics, and, through Hong Kong's international application scenarios, helping align with world standards and rules and go global.
Subsequently, Ms. Yang Zi of Invest Hong Kong, Mr. Chen Xuewei of the Construction Industry Council, and representatives of leading enterprises such as Ms. Shen Qisen of Rider Levett Bucknall and Mr. Huang Weilin of Chevalier (Construction) Company Limited shared Hong Kong's mature experience in the diversified development of BIM from the dimensions of the government-business environment, industry standards, and corporate practice, sparking enthusiastic responses from the guests.
During the visits to the two major Light Public Housing projects at Choi Hing Road and Kai Tak Sports Avenue, Ho Wing-yin, Director of the Hong Kong Housing Bureau, personally led the delegation and accompanied them with explanations throughout. This not only reflected the Hong Kong SAR Government's strategic emphasis on MiC modular construction, BIM+AI intelligent construction, and green public housing development, but also provided official authoritative endorsement for the relevant technical pathways, marking that intelligent construction technology has been fully integrated into the core construction system of Hong Kong's livelihood projects.
Delegation members said that this Hong Kong study tour gave them an intuitive sense of the revolutionary empowerment of digital-intelligent technologies for the construction industry, especially Hong Kong's mature model of integrated development across "technological innovation - industrial upgrading - livelihood protection," which provides valuable, replicable, and scalable experience for the digital transformation of the mainland construction industry.
The Hong Kong study tour of the 2026 Engineering Digital Intelligence Conference came to a successful conclusion. It not only established a regular platform for high-level exchange between the construction industries of Shenzhen and Hong Kong, but also promoted in-depth cooperation between the two regions in areas such as mutual recognition of BIM standards, transformation of technological achievements, and co-building of the industrial ecosystem. In the future, both sides will continue to deepen collaboration, jointly advance the Greater Bay Area's construction industry toward intelligence, green development, and internationalization, and work together to draw a new industry blueprint for the AI×BIM 2.0 era.
