On April 5, the dismantling of the foundation pit construction protective air membrane for the Phase III reconstruction and expansion project of the East Campus of Qingdao Municipal Hospital was officially launched. As the city's first foundation pit air membrane project, since its completion and commissioning in October 2025, it has successfully completed the "escort" mission for foundation pit construction, achieving the green construction goals of "full enclosure, zero disturbance, and high efficiency." Its successful application has provided replicable and promotable practical experience for green construction management of similar projects across the city.

As a key medical livelihood project in the core area of Shinan District, the Phase III project of Qingdao Municipal Hospital faces a complex surrounding environment including hospitals and residences, and the public has a strong demand for construction dust control and noise management. The project innovatively adopted large-area enclosed air membrane technology for the foundation pit. After the air membrane was completed, the Municipal Construction Management Center, based on its regulatory functions, included the project in its key supervision list and established a trinity regulatory model of "daily inspection + specialized assistance + intelligent supervision," following up throughout the entire process on the application of the air membrane and construction supervision. It focused on inspecting the operation of the intelligent monitoring system, urged on-site implementation of real-time monitoring measures for air pressure inside the membrane and harmful gases, and, in accordance with the six dust control requirements for construction sites, regularly tested dust indicators inside and outside the air membrane, effectively ensuring that the medical treatment and living environment of surrounding residents were not affected.
During its approximately five-month application period, the foundation pit air membrane of the Phase III project of Qingdao Municipal Hospital produced significant schedule, environmental, economic, and safety benefits, with outstanding results. First, it greatly compressed the critical construction schedule: the all-weather working environment created by the air membrane effectively resisted interference from strong winds, rain and snow, low temperatures, and other weather conditions, saving a total of 48 days in construction time. Second, the environmental and social benefits were remarkable: monitoring data showed that the average PM10 concentration outside the air membrane at the construction site decreased by about 59% compared with open construction environments of similar foundation pits, and construction noise 1 meter outside the air membrane was reduced by more than 30 dB(A) compared with no covering. Third, it reduced energy consumption during winter construction: the temperature inside the air membrane was 6-8°C higher than outdoors, reducing the need for heating measures and achieving energy conservation and emission reduction, with calculations showing a reduction of about 4.3 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Fourth, it improved safety control: during multiple instances of Level 7 strong winds (with maximum instantaneous Level 10), the air membrane structure remained stable, and relying on the intelligent monitoring system, the "zero casualty" management goal was achieved.
Next, the Municipal Construction Management Center will continue to strengthen green construction supervision, promote advanced technologies, consolidate control responsibilities, drive green and low-carbon development of building construction, safeguard urban renewal and livelihood project construction, and help build a beautiful Qingdao.
