The pile foundation construction for the converter station of the Yu-Qian back-to-back interconnection project—the first flexible DC back-to-back converter station in Southwest China—has officially commenced, with Hubei Engineering Company participating in its construction. The project will significantly enhance the power mutual-aid capacity between Chongqing and Guizhou, providing strong support for regional high-quality economic and social development and national energy security.

The converter station of the Yu-Qian back-to-back interconnection project is a key project in the national "14th Five-Year Plan" for power development and the first flexible DC back-to-back converter station in Southwest China. Compared with conventional DC converter stations, flexible DC back-to-back converter stations can independently and rapidly control active and reactive power, feature flexible control of power flow direction, and have stronger emergency fault-support capability, which helps further enhance grid stability.

The converter station of the Yu-Qian back-to-back interconnection project is located in Longsheng Town, Qijiang District, Chongqing, adding a converter capacity of 3 million kilowatts and constructing new lines of 2×132.5 kilometers, with commissioning planned for June 2027.

After the project is completed and put into operation, it will not only significantly enhance the power mutual-aid capacity between Chongqing and Guizhou and realize the optimal allocation of power resources between the two places, but also improve the emergency dispatch capability of the power grid in Southwest China in response to extreme weather and sudden accidents, adding "double insurance" to regional energy security. At the same time, the project will complement the already operational Sichuan-Chongqing 1,000 kV ultra-high voltage AC project and the Hami-Chongqing ±800 kV ultra-high voltage DC project, building an energy security framework of "multiple ultra-high voltage DC lines + ultra-high voltage AC ring network + interconnection with neighboring provinces," and providing strong support for regional high-quality economic and social development and national energy security.
