On March 14, the construction site of Section 4 (pre-station works) of the Nanjing Shangyuanmen River Crossing Project, undertaken by China Railway Tunnel Group, was bustling with activity.

At present, the retaining structure, main structure, and pile foundations of the Phase I works—comprising the Jiangnan working shaft and the cut-and-cover tunnel—have all been completed for this section, marking phased progress in the project. Construction is now focused on the crown beams and bracing, laying the groundwork for subsequent foundation pit excavation.

According to the plan, foundation pit excavation for this section is expected to officially begin in early April.

It is understood that the Nanjing Shangyuanmen River Crossing runs from Nanjing North Station in Jiangbei New Area in the north to Nanjing Station in the main city in the south, with a main line length of approximately 20.4 kilometers. It uses a single-tube, double-track high-speed railway tunnel to cross beneath the Yangtze River, with a maximum burial depth of 107 meters, making it Nanjing's first high-speed railway river-crossing tunnel.

As a key project of the Nanjing railway hub, the Nanjing Shangyuanmen River Crossing will fill the gap in railway river crossings in eastern Nanjing and ease the transport pressure on the existing Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge.
