On March 4,the Xiamen section of the Xiamen–Kinmen Bridge project,one of its key control works,—the right tube of the Huandao Road shield tunnel—was successfully holed through,marking that over half of the project's shield tunneling workhas been completed,and the project has moved into the preparation stage for construction of the left shield tunnel tube.

The Xiamen section of the Xiamen–Kinmen Bridge project is a comprehensive undertaking integrating multiple types of sea-crossing bridges, tunnels and interchange junctions, comprising two major parts: the offshore bridges and the on-island underground works. To protect the coastal landscape, both the main line and the ramps of the on-island section are built in tunnel form.

The Huandao Road Tunnel starts at the intersection of Huandao Road and Huizhan North Road in Siming District, Xiamen, and ends at the Guanyinshan Interchange Beach Bridge, with a total length of 3.29 kilometers. It is designed to a standard of dual-direction six lanes with a travel speed of 80 km/h, and consists of two parts: a shield tunnel and a cut-and-cover tunnel. The right tube of the shield tunnel holed through this time has a total length of 1,038 meters.
