On January 28, 2026, the Guangzhou Building Energy Conservation Technology Association successfully held its "2025 Annual Meeting and Green Building Innovation Technology Exchange Conference" at the Dongfeng Hotel. With the theme "Energy Saving and Efficiency Enhancement, Led by 'Innovation'," the conference brought together more than one hundred representatives from research institutes, various construction enterprises, design units, and government authorities. Experts at the conference shared and exchanged views on innovative technologies such as green carbon reduction for substations, the "photovoltaic-storage-direct-flexible" practice of distributed building energy, and multi-energy coupling optimization, and held in-depth discussions on how to build high-quality "good houses" in the hot and humid regions with hot summers and warm winters, pooling wisdom and consensus to promote the high-quality development of green buildings in Guangzhou.

Professor Wu Huijun of the Institute of Building Energy Conservation of Guangzhou University gave an excellent presentation titled "Research and Application of Green Carbon Reduction Technologies for Substation Buildings." The report systematically introduced a carbon emission calculation method based on the full life cycle of substation buildings (covering the construction, operation, and demolition stages). Professor Wu and his team proposed comprehensive emission reduction strategies for substation buildings, ranging from high-performance building envelopes and efficient equipment systems to renewable energy utilization, and introduced a carbon reduction prediction and optimization system based on big data analysis, providing a quantifiable technical path for precise carbon reduction of such special public buildings. The Institute of Building Energy Conservation of Guangzhou University, where Wu Huijun works, has long been committed to research in fields such as building energy conservation and renewable energy utilization.

Xiao Ben, Deputy General Manager of Guangzhou Airport New Energy Co., Ltd., shared "A New Paradigm for Distributed Building Energy — Unveiling the 'Photovoltaic-Storage-Direct-Flexible' Practice of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Phase III." Using the resettlement area project of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Phase III as a case study, the report revealed how the system of "photovoltaic power generation, energy storage batteries, direct current distribution, and flexible electricity use" works in coordination. By installing photovoltaic panels on building roofs and using artificial intelligence algorithms to precisely predict and dispatch power generation, storage, and demand in real time, the project achieved maximum local consumption of clean energy. Mr. Xiao introduced that after the project is fully completed, it is expected to generate 86.9 million kWh of electricity annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 69,400 tons per year, setting a benchmark for energy transition at the future urban district level.

Qiao Shi, Technical Director of Guangzhou Qigao New Materials Technology Co., Ltd., shared "Focusing on Sound Insulation and Thermal Insulation to Support the Construction of 'Good Houses.'" The report pointed out that building "good houses" suited to the Lingnan climate must return to fundamentals, focus on performance, and adopt systematic solutions. Only by elevating sound insulation and thermal insulation to the strategic level of health, comfort, and low carbon, and by leveraging quantifiable high-performance materials and system solutions while coordinating the efforts of all industry parties, can the goal of enabling citizens to live in ideal homes that are "well sound-insulated, lower in energy consumption, and comfortable in all seasons" ultimately be achieved. This is not only a technical path but also a profound response to the essence of living and the well-being of the people.

Lai Wenbin, Deputy Chief Engineer of Guangdong Architectural Design & Research Institute Group Co., Ltd., turned his attention to the balance between technological implementation and economic feasibility in his report "Research on Multi-Energy Coupling Optimization Based on Energy Saving and Economic Benefits." He emphasized that the promotion of green technologies must take into account both energy-saving effects and return on investment. The report explored how, through advanced simulation and optimization algorithms, multiple energy sources (such as electricity, natural gas, and renewable energy) can be scientifically configured and operated in coordination within building energy systems, thereby optimizing full life-cycle costs while meeting building energy demand, and providing a key decision-making tool for the market-oriented promotion of green buildings.

Yuan Ying, Deputy General Manager of Guangdong Fumeiyou Technology Co., Ltd., delivered a report titled "Challenges and Opportunities of the 'Fumeiyou' Energy-Saving Ecological Environment 2026," pointing out that China's low-carbon transition will enter a critical period, bringing clear long-term policy orientation and market expectations to enterprises. Digitalization and intelligentization are becoming key enabling means in the field of energy conservation and environmental protection, with enormous market space.

Finally, President Gu Li chaired a roundtable discussion on green buildings. Kang Lin, a second-level researcher of the Science and Technology Design Division of the Guangzhou Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau, put forward four requirements for how to do green building work well in 2026.

First, the association should build a good platform, give full play to its role as a bridge and bond, actively collect information on awards won by projects in which member units have participated, actively promote and publicize them in large-scale events such as Energy Conservation Promotion Month, and focus on the field of energy-saving renovation of existing buildings.

Second, project owners and consulting agencies should be encouraged to actively carry out the application for Guangzhou green building labels. In the design, construction, and acceptance stages, the whole-process management of green building label implementation should be well carried out, and government-invested projects must obtain labels.

Third, the association's members bring together units across the entire green building industry chain, including design, construction, consulting, research institutions, and equipment and material manufacturers. By combining the advantages of all parties, breakthrough research should be carried out on pain-point issues in regions with hot summers and warm winters to improve building quality.

Fourth, building materials enterprises can apply for inclusion in the green building materials procurement catalog through two channels: third-party certification of green building materials, or applying to the Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau for recognition in accordance with the requirements of the "Government Procurement Demand Standards for Green Buildings and Green Building Materials." The association should actively organize experts to carry out corresponding training.

The participating experts and representatives of member units highly agreed with the above requirements and expressed that they were deeply inspired and greatly encouraged. The conference concluded successfully in a very strong atmosphere of exchange and discussion. Let us join hands and move forward together, turning today's blueprint into tomorrow's reality, and jointly create a new situation of green, low-carbon, and high-quality development in Guangzhou!
