On January 30, at the Nanjing North Railway Station construction site, steel columns had risen like giants all around, and 47 cranes stretched out their steel arms, working in tandem across the vast site. Across this nearly 700,000-square-meter expanse of land, the scene was one of steaming hustle and full-throttle activity. Viewed from above, the grand main skeleton of the Nanjing North Railway Station building has already begun to take shape. What is eagerly anticipated is that the main structure of the elevated waiting hall will be visible in the first half of this year, and it is expected that in October next year, this brand-new hub will open its doors to welcome passengers, with efficient optical-valley elevators able to deliver travelers directly to the waiting hall.

The total construction area of Nanjing North Railway Station is approximately 692,100 square meters, equivalent to the size of nearly a hundred standard football fields. The station scale reaches 16 platforms and 30 tracks, innovatively setting up three parallel yards for high-speed, intercity, and conventional-speed rail, and will introduce multiple lines including the North Yanjiang High-Speed Railway, the Ninghuai Intercity Railway, the Ningchubeng Intercity Railway, the Beijing-Shanghai Railway, and the Shangyuanmen river-crossing passage. It is the only comprehensive railway passenger station in Nanjing integrating high-speed, intercity, and conventional-speed railways. In the future, its annual passenger volume is expected to reach 36.5 million, and it can accommodate up to 13,500 people at one time. It fills the gap of a large railway hub in the Jiangbei area and will join Nanjing Station and Nanjing South Station to form an engine driving urban development.
On January 30, beside the subway foundation pit of the station building Package 2 project, the project builders welcomed a key milestone—the construction of all structures below the station's plus-or-minus zero level was completed, and construction fully shifted to a new stage of above-ground main structure construction.
At present, the entire project is like a highly efficient, coordinated giant machine. The municipal expressway structure has been fully completed; the station building foundation construction is 95% complete, the exit level is 60% complete, the track-bearing level is 40% complete, and the elevated level is 20% complete. Of the nearly 120,000 tons of steel structure in total, 58,000 tons have been installed—just over half.
At present, more than 4,000 builders on the Nanjing North Railway Station project are staying at the construction front line, going full throttle to ensure every link fits together perfectly. According to the construction plan, the project will complete the main structure of the elevated waiting hall in the first half of 2026, while advancing steel structure construction and supporting projects such as subways and expressways, laying a solid foundation for subsequent decoration and finishing work.
