On the Siping Road Campus of Tongji University, students hurry along as the end of the semester approaches. Not long ago, construction quietly began on the new Comprehensive Sports Hall project in the southeast corner of the campus.

The construction site is very quiet, and nearby students can barely perceive any noise or dust. To minimize the impact of construction on surrounding students, the project has erected a 2.5-meter perimeter wall wrapped in artificial turf; the wall is also fitted with spray equipment to reduce dust.

According to reports, the Comprehensive Sports Hall under construction will house a variety of sports facilities, including badminton, table tennis, volleyball, rock climbing, pickleball, fencing, and boxing, and will accommodate competitions, lectures, and other scenarios in addition to teaching, enabling multipurpose use of the venue.

The main difficulty of the project lies in the fact that, due to the venue's high ceiling and large span, a high-strength steel truss string beam structure more than 30 meters long needs to be installed, which poses considerable construction challenges. The project team will adopt a "segmental hoisting + support trestle" approach to ensure construction safety.

With tight schedules and heavy tasks, construction began the day after the construction permit was obtained. Four drilling rigs, one slurry drying machine, and two excavators have already been mobilized on site, and the contractor will complete the installation of all 254 pile foundations before the Spring Festival. Underground works are expected to be completed before August, the main structure before December, and the exterior facade and interior finishing around April next year. Currently, construction workers are working overtime to ensure that the pre-Spring Festival tasks are completed on schedule.
