As China's first systematic wharf renovation project and an important component of Shanghai Port's "One Port, Eight Areas" layout, the Phase I Wharf Renovation Project at Luojing Port Area has, since its launch, consistently adhered to the requirements of the "Yangtze River Economic Belt Ecological Protection" and "Dual Carbon" strategies. Guided by the construction philosophy of "green, low-carbon, intelligent, and efficient," it has integrated eco-friendliness throughout the entire construction process.

In the process of transforming a heavily polluting coal wharf into a fully automated, green container wharf, the project team, from scheme design to resource utilization and from technology selection to waste disposal, was guided by the principle of "minimal environmental impact and maximal resource recycling." This has driven the wharf renovation's transition from "traditional construction" to "green construction," making it a model for high-quality development in waterway engineering.

To address the challenge of resource utilization in renovating an old wharf, the project team formulated a tiered plan of "demolition and reconstruction + renovation and reuse + in-situ reuse" and innovatively applied the technology of backfilling with reused concrete approach embankments, achieving a 70% utilization rate of the wharf's original structural resources. The 30% of waste generated from demolition, including concrete and steel rebar, was centrally crushed and converted into roadbed and subgrade structural layers for the newly built approach embankments, achieving "zero external transport" of construction waste.

This practice not only reduced material costs by approximately 20% but also helped the project win the "Shanghai Construction Project Green Construction Class I" award. Its recycling model has become a reference template for green renovation in the industry.

Faced with the construction challenge of "2,571 interleaved pile foundations and high pile-driving risks," the project team tackled the pain points through technological innovation. It used laser scanning positioning technology and unmanned aerial vehicle and unmanned surface vessel survey and scanning technology to collect data on existing piles. By integrating pile foundation parameters through BIM, it achieved precise positioning for pile driving; BIM modeling of vessel and machinery anchor cable layouts avoided mutual interference, reduced safety hazards, and optimized the waterborne operation space. The project team successively applied 10 new construction technologies, including prefabricated concrete structure technology, green construction technology, and information technology, driving a dual leap in construction efficiency and quality through new quality productive forces.
