Driven by the "dual carbon" strategy, China's offshore wind power industry is developing rapidly. However, in the complex marine environment, offshore wind power pile foundations are subject to continuous scouring by waves and tides, and the surrounding seabed is easily hollowed out, resulting in reduced bearing capacity of the pile foundation and even potentially causing wind turbine overturning. This is known as the "invisible killer" threatening wind power safety.
Recently, a young research team from Ludong University successfully developed the "Pile Pupil—Intelligent Monitoring and Early Warning System for Offshore Wind Power Pile Foundation Scouring," providing an innovative solution to this problem and winning first prize in the "Challenge Cup" China Youth Science and Technology Innovation "Open Competition Mechanism to Select the Best Candidates" competition.
Addressing industry pain points, the Ludong University team, under the guidance of teacher Li Kangqiang, worked intensively for several months with members Zhang Yu, Zhou Xiaoyi, Zhang Ai, Wei Hengtong, Yang Rining, Zheng Wenhao and others to successfully create the "Pile Pupil" system. The system has achieved three core breakthroughs:Three-dimensional sensing, all-weather monitoring: An innovative 16-dimensional distributed stress sensing array was deployed, combined with multiple modules such as vibration, flow velocity and water pressure, and pressure, to build a "four-in-one" three-dimensional sensing network, achieving for the first time synchronous, precise and continuous monitoring of pile foundations around the full circumference and at multiple depths.
Intelligent diagnosis, real-time early warning: The system integrates advanced algorithms such as Kalman filtering, principal component analysis, and BP neural networks. It can not only invert the scour pit depth with high precision, but also conduct intelligent assessment and risk early warning of pile foundation safety status, achieving a leap from "monitoring" to "diagnosis."Convenient deployment, controllable cost: It adopts a lightweight, modular design, supports rapid on-site installation within ten minutes, and has remote communication and unmanned operation and maintenance capabilities. The detection cost per monopile is low and controllable, laying a solid foundation for large-scale promotion. The R&D process was full of challenges. The team conducted dozens of groups of simulation experiments in the large wave-current flume at Ludong University. For on-site verification, members traveled to Zhifu Island in Yantai, Dongshan Pier and other places, surveying test points against the sea breeze and completing equipment installation and debugging, ensuring the system's stability in the real marine environment.
