Recently, the Southern Weekly Sci-Tech Innovation Research Center released the "2025 Top 10 Chinese Enterprises by Industry in Sci-Tech Innovation" list. XCMG Group topped the list for the first time, ranking first in sci-tech innovation in the special equipment manufacturing industry for 2025.

This recognition

stems from XCMG's deep insight into the wave of intelligent manufacturing

and even more from

its commitment to long-termism

How should the special equipment manufacturing industry play its role as a "key engine" of the modern industrial system?

The answer lies in the wave of intelligent manufacturing and Industry 4.0: accelerating automation, digitalization, and intelligentization to achieve leaps in capacity and efficiency, thereby injecting a steady stream of core momentum into industrial upgrading and technological innovation.

In the capital-intensive special equipment sector with high technical thresholds, state-owned capital still plays a major role in supporting long-term technology development. The average R&D investment of state-owned enterprises is 552 million yuan, three times higher than the average of enterprises under other forms of ownership; the median R&D investment is also 2.7 times higher than that of other ownership types.

In the long run, emphasizing R&D investment is key to maintaining corporate competitiveness. In the first half of 2025 alone, XCMG's R&D investment reached 2.635 billion yuan, up 5.14% year on year, with innovation focused on high-end, intelligent, and green transformation. This path is chosen not only to respond to current market changes but also to contribute to elevating the capabilities of the entire industrial chain.

Note:

In 2021, Southern Weekly established the "Southern Weekly Sci-Tech Innovation Research Center" and built a database of Chinese enterprises' sci-tech innovation. Centered on three dimensions—R&D investment, R&D output, and corporate development—and drawing on R&D investment and company development disclosed in annual reports, global and Chinese patent applications, grants, and citations, participation in formulating industry and national standards, and receipt of national, provincial and ministerial, and social science and technology awards, it compiled a research indicator system for Chinese enterprises' sci-tech innovation based on nearly 30 indicators, to identify the Chinese enterprises with the strongest sci-tech innovation across industries, and further to track the sources and destinations of Chinese enterprises' sci-tech innovation across industries and regions, as well as possible future sci-tech innovation output and breakthroughs.

Based on about 30 indicators disclosed by enterprises, including R&D investment (funds, personnel, intensity), R&D output (patents, standards, science and technology awards), and corporate development (revenue, operating profit, net profit, market value), the highest value in the industry for each indicator was used as the denominator and each enterprise's value as the numerator to calculate their respective scores. The scores for each indicator were then summed to rank the sci-tech innovation TOP10 in each industry.
