On November 28, the second phase of the Meizhou Pumped Storage Power Station, the first pumped storage project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area under the 14th Five-Year Plan and constructed by Sinohydro Bureau 8, was fully put into operation. With this, the Meizhou Pumped Storage Power Station, with a total scale of 2.4 million kilowatts, has been fully completed, becoming China's pumped storage power station with the strongest clean energy absorption capacity among stations of the same scale, the highest degree of unit localization, and the largest market-oriented operating capacity.

The Meizhou Pumped Storage Power Station in Guangdong is being advanced in two phases. Sinohydro Bureau 8 is the construction unit involved in the most contract sections of the station, having successively undertaken the core works of the Three Tunnels Section, the Upper Reservoir Section, and the Electromechanical Installation Section, and has been deeply involved throughout the entire construction process. Among them, the first phase was fully put into operation by the end of May 2022, not only setting a new industry record with the first domestic unit achieving a guide bearing runout of 5 dao for the first time, but also setting the shortest construction period record for the main works of a comparable domestic pumped storage power station, accumulating valuable experience for the second phase.

Since the start of the second phase of the Meizhou Pumped Storage project in September 2023, the builders of Sinohydro Bureau 8 have taken root in the deep mountains of eastern Guangdong, overcoming numerous technical difficulties with the tenacity to "gnaw on hard bones," and engraving "craftsmanship" into every construction process. From the precise stacking of more than 104,000 0.5-millimeter silicon steel sheets for the stator core, to the strict control of millimeter-level positioning accuracy in the hoisting of the 370-ton stator; from the ultimate control of welding deformation of the rotor support, to the successful achievement of the premium target of 50-micrometer guide bearing runout—behind every figure is the builders' persistent pursuit of "striving for perfection."

Today, the first and second phases of the Meizhou Pumped Storage Power Station are fully connected and working in tandem, with total installed capacity officially reaching 2.4 million kilowatts, making it a veritable "super power bank" of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. After the project is put into operation, it can absorb up to 7.2 billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy per year, equivalent to the annual electricity demand of 3.28 million residential users, ranking first among domestic pumped storage power stations of the same scale in clean energy absorption capacity.
