On November 26, the Huaneng Longdong Energy Base new energy supporting energy storage project—the largest electrochemical energy storage project currently under construction in China, undertaken by PowerChina Nuclear Engineering Company—successfully achieved its first batch of grid connections. As the supporting energy storage project of China's first ten-million-kilowatt-level "wind-solar-thermal-storage" multi-energy complementary comprehensive energy base—the Huaneng Longdong Multi-Energy Complementary Comprehensive Energy Base—the project adopts China's independently developed single-stage distributed energy storage technology, offering higher energy utilization efficiency and greater operational and maintenance flexibility.

The project is located in Huanxian County, Qingyang City, Gansu Province. Configured at 10% of the new energy installed capacity with a 4-hour duration, it has a total energy storage capacity of 600 MW/2,400 MWh and is being built at two sites. Once completed, it will absorb approximately 840 million kWh of new energy electricity annually; a single charge can store about 2.4 million kWh, enough to meet the daily electricity demand of up to 480,000 households. It will effectively promote new energy consumption and safeguard the safe and stable operation of the power system, and is of great significance to building a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient new energy system.

An ancient homeland of the Zhou ancestors and a renowned city of the West, Qingyang—a red city where green mountains forge loyal souls—is not only the only revolutionary base area in Gansu Province but also a "frontier stronghold" of energy transition in the new era. In advancing project construction, the project team of PowerChina Nuclear Engineering Company has consistently kept its focus on the core goal of high-standard power transmission and commissioning, resolutely shouldering the solid responsibility of the PowerChina iron army, rising to challenges and pressing forward courageously. Facing numerous challenges such as scattered project sites and dispersed resources, the team adhered to the management philosophy of "standardization, intensification and penetration," actively built platforms and vehicles for striving for excellence and overcoming difficulties, proactively adjusted and optimized its management model, and strengthened the synergy between headquarters and the project department, achieving information sharing, resource integration and efficient coordination. With scientific management mechanisms and pragmatic execution strategies, the project team successfully overcame multiple technical difficulties and delivered a series of key milestones with high quality on schedule. This not only fully demonstrates PowerChina Nuclear Engineering Company's outstanding engineering capability in building large-scale new energy bases in the complex "desert-gobi-wasteland" environment, but also, through a full-cycle refined control model, vividly showcases PowerChina's wisdom and strength in advancing the clean energy industry, contributing an important practical model for safeguarding national energy security and achieving the dual carbon goals.

The project's commissioning will unleash significant economic and social benefits and provide solid practical support for building a new power system with new energy as the mainstay. A single charge can store 2.4 million kWh, enough to meet the daily electricity demand of 480,000 households, with an energy storage scale equivalent to the total battery capacity of 36,000 new energy vehicles with a 500-kilometer range; it can absorb approximately 840 million kWh of new energy electricity annually, greatly enhancing the stability of the regional power grid and its capacity to consume green electricity. Its commissioning marks that the Huaneng Longdong Multi-Energy Complementary Comprehensive Energy Base officially possesses the capability for coordinated "wind, solar, thermal and storage" operation, laying a solid foundation for the large-scale and efficient outbound transmission of clean energy under the "Longdong Power to Shandong" project, and has far-reaching strategic significance for strengthening Shandong's power supply security and promoting ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin.
