Recently, the Stung Mondon Level 1 Hydropower Station in Cambodia reached a key milestone: the concrete face rockfill dam was successfully filled to the top, marking a decisive victory in the construction of the main works of the power station.
A total of three cascade hydropower stations are planned in the Stung Mondon River Basin, with a total installed capacity of 150 MW and annual power generation of approximately 490 million kWh. The Level 1 Hydropower Station is the leading hub project, located in Pursat Province in northwestern Cambodia, with an installed capacity of 57 MW, annual power generation of approximately 180 million kWh, and a total reservoir capacity of approximately 720 million cubic meters. Once completed, it will play an important role in regional water resource regulation and clean energy supply.
The concrete face rockfill dam topped out this time, with a maximum dam height of 93.3 meters, a crest length of 604.5 meters, and a crest width of 8.75 meters, has become the core highlight of the project, with a total fill volume of 3.12 million cubic meters, a massive scale, and complex technology. During construction, the team faced many challenges such as high filling intensity, long-distance material supply from borrow areas, high technical requirements, and difficult quality control. Through refined construction organization, rational resource allocation, and overcoming the difficulties of construction during the rainy season, the team tackled difficulties all the way. After nearly 10 months of continuous hard work, they finally completed all dam body filling tasks with high quality and efficiency.
The smooth topping out of the dam has created decisive conditions for the station to achieve subsequent impoundment, installation and commissioning of generating units, and has also taken the most solid step toward the goal of the station being connected to the grid for power generation as soon as possible and bringing economic and social benefits into play.
