On November 18, the Jinghong Gasa Chenggan photovoltaic project, for which Northwest Institute acted as general contractor, was connected to the grid and began generating power. As Yunnan Province's first exploration of the "tea-light complementary" model, the project innovatively realizes the advantageous development of "power generation above the panels and tea cultivation below the panels," providing a new path for the integration of clean energy and modern agriculture.
The project is located in Puwen Town, Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, with a total installed capacity of 30 MW. By erecting photovoltaic panels at a height of 2.5 meters above the ground and setting a row spacing of 6.5 meters, it not only ensures the lighting needs of tea trees but also achieves efficient reuse of land resources, forming a green development pattern of "one land, two uses, and win-win for light and tea." The "tea-light complementary" model significantly enhances comprehensive benefits: the shading and diffused light environment created by the photovoltaic panels increases the chlorophyll content of tea leaves below the panels by 12% and theanine by 8%, improving tea quality and forming a virtuous cycle of "using light to promote tea and using tea to nourish the land." After the project is completed, it is expected to generate an average annual power output of 48.25 million kWh, save about 14,500 tons of standard coal per year, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 26,900 tons per year, delivering both environmental and economic benefits.
During construction, the Northwest Institute project team overcame the construction difficulties caused by Xishuangbanna's long rainy season. From May to October, the local effective construction days were less than one-fifth, and continuous rainfall led to saturated soil moisture and blocked transportation. The Northwest Institute project team promptly optimized the construction plan, innovatively used "drone material spreading" to pre-place modules and supports, jointly optimized foundation treatment technology with the design unit, used graded crushed stone replacement to ensure the quality of equipment foundations, and efficiently completed the main equipment foundation construction of the switching station within 20 days, laying a solid foundation for the project's grid connection.
The project is a vivid practice of actively implementing the "dual carbon" strategy and promoting energy transition and rural revitalization. Through technological and model innovation, it activates land potential and achieves the organic unity of economic, ecological, and social benefits, exploring a green, efficient, and coordinated development path for traditional agricultural areas.
