Recently, the lower reservoir dam of the Xinjiang Hami Pumped Storage Power Station, for which the Northwest Institute undertook the survey and design tasks, was successfully topped out. The complete fulfillment of this key milestone marks another major milestone achievement in the station's construction, laying a solid foundation for subsequent water impoundment and power generation as well as the project's on-schedule commissioning.

The Xinjiang Hami Pumped Storage Power Station is located in Tianshan Township, about 54 kilometers northeast of Hami City. The station has a rated head of 474 meters and an installed capacity of 1,200 megawatts. It consists of structures including the upper reservoir, lower reservoir, water conveyance system, underground powerhouse system, and switch station. The upper reservoir dam was successfully topped out on August 30, 2025. The lower reservoir dam topped out this time is a reinforced concrete face rockfill dam with a maximum dam height of 81 meters and a crest length of 504 meters.

Since the start of dam filling construction, in the face of numerous challenges such as complex geological conditions, a short effective construction period, a mismatch between supply and demand of dam-fill materials, and high-intensity filling operations, the design team of the Northwest Institute worked closely with all participating units, adjusting and improving the plan in line with on-site conditions as the project progressed, and strictly controlling the process, thereby ensuring that the project achieved the goal of topping out the lower reservoir dam on schedule.
