On September 25, the Wuhan Jiangbei Urban Area 500 kV Power Transmission and Transformation Project, the first extra-high-voltage urban project in Central China and designed by Hubei Engineering Company, was put into operation and began transmitting power, marking a new channel for clean energy from Northwest China to reach Wuhan.
The Wuhan Jiangbei Urban Area 500 kV Power Transmission and Transformation Project is the first extra-high-voltage urban project in Central China, a key project in Hubei Power Grid's strategy of "ultra-high voltage near the city, extra-high voltage into the city," and a key control project in Wuhan's effort to build a world-class power grid. The 500 kV substation included in the project is the first 500 kV fully indoor substation in Central China, and the 500 kV transmission line is the first in China to use "F"-type narrow-base steel tube towers along its entire length.
As the first extra-high-voltage indoor substation in Central China to reach deep into the urban core, the design team of Hubei Engineering Company took "de-industrialization, energy conservation and emission reduction, and urban integration" as its theme, deeply integrated digital technology, and made every effort to create a landmark project that safeguards people's livelihood, is green and environmentally friendly, and promotes harmonious coexistence. The substation adopts a compact, three-dimensional design, with all electrical equipment arranged indoors in a split-level layout, saving about 50% of land compared with conventional outdoor substations of the same voltage level. To solve the problem of limited urban construction space and the parallel routing of two independent circuits, the design team pioneered in China a design scheme using "F"-type narrow-base steel tube towers along the entire line, which saves about 40% of corridor width compared with conventional schemes. At the same time, through the facade colors and decoration of the main buildings, the substation is cleverly integrated into the surrounding ecological features such as Wutong Rain Park, achieving harmonious coexistence with the urban landscape.
After the project is put into operation, it will open a channel for clean energy from Northwest China to enter Wuhan, adding 2 million kVA of transformation capacity to the urban area of Wuhan, equivalent to the grid capacity of a medium-sized city, with annual power transmission reaching 3.84 billion kWh. It will directly ensure reliable electricity supply for medical, educational, commercial and other livelihood facilities serving more than 10 million residents of Wuhan, provide power sources for 6 220 kV substations and 26 110 kV substations in Wuhan, provide an energy growth pole for Wuhan's construction as a "National Central City," and is of great significance for safeguarding Hubei's economic development and residents' lives.
