On September 8, the water release and emptying tunnel of the Uluwati Reservoir Project, constructed by Sinohydro Foundation Engineering Bureau, was successfully holed through, marking a phased victory in the reservoir construction and laying a solid foundation for the smooth advancement of subsequent works.

The Uluwati Reservoir is located in Bositan Tielieke Township, Wuqia County, Kizilsu Kirghiz Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang. The reservoir has a total storage capacity of 9.6 million cubic meters and a designed irrigation area of 66,700 mu. It is an important water conservancy facility that primarily serves irrigation while also undertaking the task of water supply for villages and towns.

As one of the controlling works of the reservoir construction project, the water release and emptying tunnel holed through this time has a total length of 633.5 meters and a designed excavation cross-section of 3.10*3.05 meters. The tunnel undertakes the key tasks of reservoir water level regulation and safe project operation, and its successful holing-through provides an important guarantee for the completion of the entire project on schedule.

Upon completion, the project will effectively optimize the water resource utilization pattern of Wuqia County, improve irrigation conditions, ensure the safety of urban and rural water supply, help local agricultural development and livelihood improvement, and inject new momentum into promoting sustainable development.
