New Demerara River Bridge in Guyana Achieves Full Span Closure
Constructed with the participation of LiuGong OVM Company
This major project has achieved a milestone progress
marking that the countdown to full-line opening has begun

Guyana's President Irfaan Ali attended the site in person to offer congratulations, praising the bridge as "a great achievement built by the people, for the people." The project is not only Guyana's largest and most technically complex bridge project to date, but also, with its 300-meter main span, the longest-span cable-stayed bridge in the Caribbean region.
OVM provided innovative stay cables for the project and was responsible for the installation of all stay cables across the bridge. The stay cables for this project use φ7-1770MPa parallel wire cables, combined with zinc-aluminum alloy coating and the application of a special anti-corrosion method for the full cable body wires, greatly enhancing the corrosion resistance and fatigue resistance of the stay cables. The bridge has 136 stay cables in 9 specifications, using nearly 1,000 tons of steel wire in total. Among them, the largest specification stay cable is 7-379, the longest cable exceeds 160 meters, and the maximum weight of a single cable is about 17 tons. The application of these new materials and new processes provides a brand-new durability solution for bridge construction in tropical marine environments.

Facing multiple challenges such as the tropical climate, complex hydrology, and cross-border logistics, the OVM project team, since entering the site in October 2024, has adhered to the principles of "high standards, high efficiency, and high stability" and overcome difficulties including high temperatures and heavy rain, complex wind conditions, and over-water high-altitude operations. By adopting advanced techniques such as synchronous tower-girder construction and front-positioned form traveler cantilever casting, the team greatly improved construction efficiency while ensuring project quality. During the stay cable installation phase, in order to reduce the impact of long international transportation times on the construction schedule, the production department optimized the production scheduling process and precisely integrated the production and shipment of this project with other domestic projects. The project construction team, in turn, arranged work shifts reasonably and ultimately completed the installation of all 136 stay cables within 6 months.

Company leaders visited the project frontline multiple times to guide the work, providing strong support for the smooth progress of the project. The OVM team's outstanding technical strength and project management capabilities won high praise from the owner and the general contractor.
The closure of the New Demerara River Bridge not only demonstrates OVM's technical strength in the field of international bridge construction, but also highlights the outstanding execution capabilities of Chinese enterprises in complex projects. This bridge will become a new symbol of China-Guyana friendship and inject new vitality into local economic and social development.
