On August 28, the dam of the Lijiayan Reservoir Project—Chengdu's "second water source"—undertaken by Sinohydro Bureau 7 Co., Ltd., completed the face slab concrete pouring milestone ahead of schedule, laying the foundation for the goal of impounding water after gate closure and adding another "safety valve" to Chengdu's urban water supply security.

The Lijiayan Reservoir is one of the 172 major national water conservancy projects. The dam site is located in Huaiyuan Town, Chongzhou City. Sinohydro Bureau 7 Co., Ltd. is mainly responsible for the concrete face rockfill dam works, spillway works, urban and rural water supply system works, downstream power station works, and water supply power station works. The reservoir is primarily for urban and rural water supply, with a total storage capacity of 173 million cubic meters. Once completed, it will provide an average annual water supply of 268 million cubic meters over multiple years and an emergency storage capacity of 42.09 million cubic meters, sufficient to meet the emergency water supply demand of the central urban area for 30 days at 70% of per capita comprehensive domestic water demand. The commissioning of this project will completely break Chengdu's single-source water supply pattern, form a "dual water source guarantee network," and greatly enhance the risk resistance and resilience of the megacity's water supply system.

It is understood that the reservoir dam is a face rockfill dam with a maximum dam height of 123 meters and a crest length of 373 meters. As the core anti-seepage structure, the dam face slab was poured with C30 steel fiber reinforced concrete, using a total concrete volume of 24,800 cubic meters and covering a total area of 44,300 square meters, equivalent to the size of 105 standard basketball courts.
