On August 27, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) officially announced the review results of its 2025 grant applications. As of now, the laboratory has received funding for a total of 26 projects from the NSFC,including 1 Young Scientists Fund project (Category A), 1 Young Scientists Fund project (Category B), 12 General Program projects, 10 Young Scientists Fund projects (Category C), 1 International (Regional) Cooperation and Exchange Program project, and 1 Special Program project. Some projects are still under review.
The project "Mechanisms and Prevention of Seepage Erosion in Reservoir Dams" applied for by Professor Hu Ran, Deputy Director of the laboratory, was successfully approved as a Young Scientists Fund project (Category A); this is another important advance the laboratory has made in talent-type projects in recent years, demonstrating notable achievements in talent cultivation. The project "Evolution of Extreme Hydrological Events and Their Socio-Ecological Effects" applied for by Associate Professor Yin Jiabo was approved as a Young Scientists Fund project (Category B); this is the first talent-type project the laboratory has won in the Interdisciplinary Department, marking new progress in talent cultivation in the field of interdisciplinary research. In addition, the approval rates for Young Scientists Fund projects (Category C) and General Program projects in the hydraulic engineering discipline were both far higher than the national average, highlighting the laboratory's profound foundation and solid research strength in related fields. In recent years, the laboratory has attached great importance to NSFC project applications, treating them as a core lever for cultivating research talent and driving research innovation, and has taken multiple measures to improve the success rate. It has mobilized researchers carefully to stimulate their enthusiasm for applying; strictly organized formal reviews to ensure application forms are standardized and error-free; and conducted categorized reviews, organizing reviews for different types of projects and inviting senior experts to provide guidance, giving play to academic leadership and laying a solid foundation for building the research team, cultivating talent, and successful applications. NSFC projects provide strong support for the laboratory's future in-depth development in basic research and exploration of frontier technologies. The laboratory will take this opportunity to continue focusing on national needs, implement organized research, strengthen planning and layout, encourage original innovation and interdisciplinary research, and continuously enhance its research and innovation capabilities, thereby contributing to the high-quality development of scientific research and bringing first-class discipline construction to a new level.
