Division of Civil, Hydraulic and Architectural Engineering: 91 people

     The 2025 CAE academician election was officially launched on April 25 this year. According to the plan, the total number of new members in this election shall not exceed 100.

     The quota allocation for each division has been determined, among which the Division of Civil, Hydraulic and Architectural Engineering plans to elect 10 members. This means that 10 of the 91 valid candidates in this division will ultimately receive the title of academician.

     In addition to the regular quotas, this election also set up a special channel, with a total of 43 valid candidates through the special channel. These special channels are mainly used to support candidates in the fields of national defense and national security, remote western regions, and leading private science and technology enterprises.

     This academician election is closely integrated with national strategic needs and disciplinary development layout. The Chinese Academy of Engineering has formulated clear guidelines for academician election, highlighting the requirement to lead the development of new quality productive forces through scientific and technological innovation.

     The election work gives preference to key areas urgently needed by the country, emerging disciplines, interdisciplinary fields, major national projects, major scientific research tasks, and major science and technology infrastructure construction. This orientation is highly consistent with the development needs of the civil, hydraulic and architectural engineering fields.

     The selection criteria adhere to major contributions, academic level, and moral integrity as the yardstick. The value orientation of meeting the strategic needs of national development and security and making contributions is strengthened.

     Based on the information disclosed so far, the candidates come from universities, research institutions, and enterprises across the country.

     Hunan Province has two candidates in this division, namely Yu Zhiwu and Zhu Jianjun of Central South University. Zhejiang Province has two candidates, namely Cai Yuanqiang of Zhejiang University of Technology and Luo Yaozhi of Zhejiang University.

     Shaanxi Province has two candidates shortlisted in the Division of Civil, Hydraulic and Architectural Engineering, namely Li Zhanbin of Xi'an University of Technology and Wang Yi (female) of Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology. This reflects the scientific research strength of local universities in this field.

     The regional distribution of these candidates reflects to some extent the distribution pattern of scientific research strength in China's civil, hydraulic and architectural engineering fields.

      The academician election is held every two years. The title of academician is the highest academic title in engineering science and technology established by the state.

      After the announcement of the list of valid candidates, external peer expert review, the academician election assembly and other procedures will follow, ultimately selecting the newly elected academicians.

      The entire election process is strictly regulated to ensure the selection of experts and scholars who truly represent the highest level in China's engineering science and technology field.

      In order to maintain the academic nature, honor, and purity of the academician title, the Chinese Academy of Engineering has further strengthened multi-dimensional review of candidates and further improved the supervision system to strictly control the "entry gate" of the academician team.
