Recently, Sunward's independently developed SWDTH800 large-diameter down-the-hole (DTH) hammer drill rig has entered the Hong Kong market and been deployed on a highly challenging infrastructure project, overcoming ultra-hard rock formations with outstanding performance and winning high praise from the customer!

It is reported that Hong Kong's strata commonly contain sand layers, cobble layers, karst caves, and ultra-hard rock. This construction project is located in a narrow space between the Hong Kong MTR and a highway, with extremely complex geological conditions and rock strength exceeding 120 MPa, imposing extremely high requirements on construction safety and precision and making construction highly difficult.

Faced with such challenges, Sunward's SWDTH800 large-diameter DTH hammer drill rig rose to the occasion. Using a rotary drilling rig as the carrier and equipped with an air-powered DTH hammer and a combined casing drilling tool, the equipment can drill through complex geology such as sand layers, clay, cobble layers, karst caves, boulders, and rock, achieving "all-terrain capability in both soft and hard strata" and successfully solving the technical challenge of "efficient and stable large-diameter rock penetration" for pile foundations.

According to the R&D staff, the equipment's power head features a side-shift function for easy assembly of drill pipes, casings, and bits, and its 3-inch air inlet can meet the construction needs of ultra-deep large-diameter piles; meanwhile, the main winch lifting force can be adjusted according to the weight of the drill pipe and casing to ensure the DTH hammer operates in its optimal efficiency range. In addition, the equipment adopts a heavy-duty telescopic chassis specially designed for rotary drilling rigs and a reinforced double-boom luffing mechanism, with single-layer spooling of the main winch wire rope at full drilling depth, extending service life by 50%; the main winch uses triple-reeving lifting to guarantee lifting force.

It is worth noting that the main machine's motions plus the water circuit, air circuit, and lubrication system are integrated for control, allowing adjustment from the cab of the DTH hammer's air volume and air pressure, the power head's rotational speed, and the activation and oil volume of lubrication, greatly simplifying operational complexity and reducing manual labor intensity.

The first SWDTH800 large-diameter DTH hammer drill rig performed impressively on the project, rivaling international brands. The customer fully affirmed the hole-forming quality, construction efficiency, and equipment reliability, and plans to purchase additional units for other key infrastructure projects in Hong Kong.

Large-diameter DTH hammer drill rigs are widely used in Hong Kong's high-rise building and subway projects. With customized designs and high cost-effectiveness, domestic brands are gradually breaking the monopoly of international brands in the Hong Kong market.
