On August 15, the "Jingling No. 1" open-type hard rock tunnel boring machine (TBM), developed by China Railway Engineering Equipment Group (CREG), rolled off the production line in Jiangxi. The equipment will be used in Section 1 of the water conveyance project of the Jingling Reservoir in Shaoxing City.

Attending the ceremony were Ma Chunbo, Deputy Chief Commander of the Shaoxing Jingling Reservoir Project Construction Headquarters; Dai Weisheng, Director of the Engineering Division; Chen Yiling, Deputy Director of the Shengzhou Water Resources Bureau of Shaoxing City; Qian Kai, Deputy Mayor of Changle Town; Zhang Song, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Jingling Town, Xinchang County, Shaoxing City; Yang Dayong, Chief Supervision Engineer of the Changjiang Design and Research Institute; Xiong Zhiqiang, General Manager of the Shield Tunneling Business Division of the Municipal Engineering Branch of Gezhouba Group; Hong Ming, Deputy General Manager of the Infrastructure Business Division of East China Consulting under PowerChina Huadong Engineering Corporation; and Gu Zhengguo, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of CREG.

Section 1 of the Jingling Reservoir water conveyance project has a total route length of 18.23 km, of which the TBM-driven section is 13.49 km long. The engineering geological conditions are extremely complex, and the project faces construction challenges and difficulties such as long-distance tunneling, crossing multiple fracture zones, and mud and water inrushes.

To effectively cope with the complex geological conditions and ensure the safe and efficient progress of the project, CREG custom-built the "Jingling No. 1" TBM for the project, with an excavation diameter of 4.53 m, incorporating multiple innovative technologies. In particular, for hard rock tunneling conditions, a small force-spacing design is adopted, significantly enhancing the equipment's adaptability and construction efficiency under complex geological conditions and safeguarding tunnel construction.

The Jingling Reservoir is a core "node" project of the Zhejiang water network and even the Yangtze River Delta water network. Once completed, the project will significantly enhance the flood control capacity of the Cao'e River basin and, together with regional water conservancy facilities such as the Tangpu Reservoir, form a joint dispatch system, building a high-quality water supply network covering 4 million urban and rural residents in the Shaoxing urban area and the Shengzhou-Xinchang area, effectively resolving the regional challenge of water resource allocation.
