On August 10, leaders from ocean-related institutions, including Wang Fan, Director of the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Wu Huaichun, Vice President of China University of Geosciences (Beijing) and Deputy Director of the Department of Degree Management and Graduate Education of the Ministry of Education; Sun Jun, Dean of the College of Marine Science and Technology at China University of Geosciences (Wuhan); and Mou Lin, Academic Vice President of Hainan Tropical Ocean University, visited the Deep Sea Science and Technology Innovation Public Platform in Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City and inspected the marine research platform of the Hainan Institute of Zhejiang University. Li Peiliang, Executive Vice President of the Institute, accompanied them during the visit.

During the visit, Li Peiliang introduced the construction status and scientific value of two major scientific facilities: the Extreme Sea State Wave Focusing Basin and the Hypergravity Centrifuge. The Extreme Sea State Wave Focusing Basin, China's first circular basin capable of simulating extreme marine environments, can effectively simulate extreme wave and current conditions in deep and distant seas, providing a comprehensive marine testing environment for offshore engineering equipment such as marine energy equipment, offshore oil and gas platforms, and marine robots. The hypergravity centrifuge can provide a 200G hypergravity environment and simulate processes such as seabed geological disasters, foundation disasters of marine structures, and oil and gas resource extraction in marine environments, providing important scientific support for research on marine geotechnical engineering problems.

Subsequently, Li Peiliang introduced the "Albatross" unmanned wind-powered marine surface vehicle, mainly developed by Dr. Li Yanjun, who returned from the United States, of the Marine Processes and Equipment Team. On June 13, 2025, the vehicle successfully passed through the core area of this year's No. 1 typhoon, "Wutip," for the first time. On July 20, the "Albatross" once again successfully passed through this year's No. 6 typhoon, "Wipha." The observational data collected will provide important scientific support for studying the internal structure and formation mechanisms of typhoons, significantly improving the accuracy of typhoon forecasting and enhancing disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities.

The leaders of the participating institutions fully affirmed the achievements in the construction of the Institute's research platform. Going forward, the Institute will further strengthen scientific research cooperation and exchanges with these institutions.
