On August 6, Shanghai Municipal Deputy Party Secretary and Mayor Gong Zheng, Vice Mayor Xie Dong and other leaders inspected the design-and-build project for the southern section of the Macau LRT East Line undertaken by the Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd. (STEC) and China State Construction International joint venture, conducted an on-site inspection of the project construction site, and pressed the start button for the digital intelligent shield machine equipped with autonomous tunneling and segment assembly technology at the C-SMART command center.

During the inspection, Mayor Gong Zheng fully recognized the comprehensive strength, technological innovation and business expansion capabilities demonstrated by STEC in serving urban infrastructure construction and operation, and required STEC to recognize the landmark significance of the southern section of the Macau LRT East Line project and actively build a quality project and benchmark project; to grasp the overall situation and general trend, continuously enhance the company's core competitiveness, focus on innovation-led development, digital and green transformation, and firmly holding the safety bottom line, further consolidate development priorities, optimize the development layout, continuously deepen the full life-cycle management model, and strengthen resource integration capabilities; to adhere to mutual benefit and win-win results, steadily and orderly advance the growth of overseas business, and in the process pay more attention to serving national strategies and to risk prevention, base itself on long-term development and bravely shoulder state-owned enterprise responsibilities, and with its own technological and resource advantages provide more integrated comprehensive services for urban construction and operation in broader fields and at deeper levels.

During the inspection, Mayor Gong Zheng also listened to a report on the construction progress of the southern section of the Macau LRT East Line by STEC, and expressed condolences to the builders fighting on the front line of Macau's major engineering construction.

Ge Yiheng, Party Secretary and Chairman of STEC

Ge Yiheng, Party Secretary and Chairman of STEC, accompanied the inspection and gave a detailed introduction to STEC's core digital intelligent shield tunneling technology, overseas market development and the full life-cycle management model. Ge Yiheng said that STEC continues to deepen the full life-cycle management concept and its service model, and is committed to providing full-industry-chain, high-value-added integrated comprehensive services for urban construction and operation in various places, empowering the high-quality construction and development of smart cities. In recent years, STEC has seized the development opportunities of jointly building the "Belt and Road," paid close attention to overseas infrastructure construction and operation, continuously exported "Shanghai technology" and "Shanghai wisdom" in the infrastructure field, and made every effort to provide more solid technical support and broader professional services for infrastructure construction and economic and social development in Macau, Hong Kong and other cities. Looking to the future, STEC will continue to rely on its advanced technological advantages and integrated comprehensive capabilities to provide better services and create greater value for the high-quality construction and development of cities in various places, and continuously make new and greater contributions to serving national strategies.

Benefiting the development of Macau's new town

Serving the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area

With outstanding work results

Highlighting the STEC brand essence

The Macau LRT East Line is a landmark project for the expansion of Macau's transportation network, with a total length of about 7.7 kilometers and a plan to set up 6 stations, connecting the Border Gate, New Town Zone A, New Town Zone E and the existing Taipa Ferry Terminal Station. Once completed, it will provide convenient and stable cross-sea public transportation.

Among them, the design-and-build project for the southern section of the LRT East Line undertaken by the joint venture of STEC Urban Construction International and China State Construction International is the only single-tube cross-sea shield tunnel on the project route, with a total length of about 3,012 meters, and is constructed using the 12.52-meter-diameter STEC domestically produced large-diameter shield machine "Ao Di No. 1." The shield machine will successively pass beneath the seawall of Macau New Town Zone E, the Macau Inner Harbor channel, the external channel, the seawall of New Town Zone A and the AB passage, opening up Macau's cross-sea passage, significantly enhancing the convenience and connectivity of Macau's regional transportation, and accelerating the interconnection between Macau and other cities in the Greater Bay Area.

Shanghai Technology

Directly Facing the Challenges of Large Undersea Shield Tunneling

Because the geological conditions in the area where the project is located are extremely complex, the shield machine will face many construction challenges such as ultra-long distances, complex strata, and passing beneath the seawalls on both shores. The large shield machine, about 4 to 5 stories high, will make small-radius sharp turns beneath the Macau seabed and tunnel at a large vertical slope, just like an aircraft's aerial maneuvering.

This behemoth weighing thousands of tons must not only complete a series of complex and flexible movements, but also control the tunneling error to "within millimeters," and there is no "resting point" beneath the seabed, which places extremely high demands on the shield machine's control system.

To this end, STEC Urban Construction Equipment specially developed a series of innovative designs for the shield machine, including profiling over-cutters, actively adjustable frames, replaceable tail brushes, an automatic guidance system and axis adaptive technology, forming an efficient and precise tunneling system, greatly improving the shield machine's operating performance and adaptability, and ensuring that the shield machine can efficiently and precisely complete the tunneling task beneath the seabed.

Shanghai Speed

Serving the Accelerated Upgrading of Macau's New Town Development

The construction of the southern section of the Macau LRT East Line involves multiple industrial fields under STEC, including shield equipment, component production, and construction general contracting. In advancing the project, STEC personnel have fully given play to the "spirit of collaboration," working together to build the project efficiently, safely and with high quality. At present, the construction of the southern section of the LRT East Line is in full swing. The elevated bridge structure connecting to the existing Taipa Line has been completed, the three underground stations and two cut-and-cover tunnel sections have entered the structural construction stage, and the shield machine has been successfully launched and is tunneling in an orderly manner.

Among them, the ES6 station, which serves as the launch shaft, has been excavated and is undergoing the main structure construction of the station, with 40% completed cumulatively; 574 rings of segments for the shield tunnel have been produced, cumulatively completing more than 37% of the total; and 319 curved components have been produced, cumulatively completing 21%.

The LRT East Line connects Macau's three important ports by sea, land and air. Once completed, it will take only 15 minutes from the Border Gate Port to the Taipa Ferry Terminal. This project will become an important transportation corridor connecting the Macau Peninsula to Taipa Island, facilitating residents' travel.

Living up to the trust and forging ahead courageously
