On June 23, 2025, for the Shanghai Rail Transit Line 19 project, the Jintai SG80Eelectric hydraulic grabwas officially put into construction, marking a key technological breakthrough in green and intelligent construction for this major livelihood project with a trench width of 1.2 m and a trench depth of 60 m to 69 m, and demonstrating the innovative practice of Shanghai Jintai in fulfilling the "dual carbon" goals in the construction of major urban projects.

Innovative technology enhances construction quality

The strata of this project present, from top to bottom, a multi-layer structure of "clay-sand-dense sand"", among which59-69 msection contains iron-plate sand. As of now, Jintai's first SG80E electric hydraulic grab has operated stably for a total of 242 hours and, with its intelligent pure electric drive system, can show significant advantages in complex strata. The main hoist of the equipment has a lifting force of 80 kN (adjustable to a larger value)and fast lifting and lowering speeds, reaching up to 75 m/min during construction, about 20% more efficient than traditional equipment. The equipment consumes only807kWh of electricity for 12 hours of continuous operation, averaging67.3kWh per hour, which, compared with the nearly50liters of fuel consumption per hour of traditional diesel-powered equipment, achieves an energy-saving effect of more than60%%. More notably, when the hoist is lowered, its energy recovery system can achieve30%% electric energy recharging, forming a closed-loop energy-saving mode of"construction-energy storage"; in addition, the SG80E can carry a heavy grab, giving full play to its construction advantages in hard strata.

Green construction empowers urban development

"The SG80E's pure electric drive system completely solves the noise and pollution problems of nighttime construction in central urban areas," said the project technical director. The equipment eliminates the traditional fuel engine and uses an electric motor to drive the hydraulic pump and hoist reducer, with no high-temperature risk in summer operations, and the simplified hydraulic pipeline layout reduces maintenance costs by40%%. The spacious internal design makes daily inspection and repair more convenient, and the service life of the motor components is more than3times that of traditional components. During construction, the SG80E was equipped with a 30-ton grab; although its full mounting capacity was not fully utilized, it has already demonstrated its efficiency advantage in soft soil strata through fast lifting and lowering speeds.

Intelligent equipment leads industry transformation

As the first benchmark project in Shanghai rail transit construction to apply an electric hydraulic grab, the Shanghai Line 1925bid section project has verified the adaptability of new energy equipment under complex geological conditions. Jintai's R&D team revealed that since the SG80E made its brilliant debut at the 7th Shanghai Jintai Product Exhibition in November 2024, it has undergone half a year of rigorous testing under fully simulated real working conditions and successfully passed all verifications with excellent performance and stable quality. The equipment has now been officially incorporated into the construction system of the Shanghai Rail Transit Line 19 project, undertaking key construction tasks as core construction equipment. Subsequently, the grab system will be upgraded for complex strata and ultra-deep construction trenches to fully unleash its 80-ton lifting capacity.

With the input of more green and intelligent equipment, Shanghai rail transit construction is driving high-quality development through technological innovation and setting a new benchmark for underground space development in megacities. Industry experts pointed out that this case provides a practical example for the "oil-to-electricity"" transition in urban underground engineering and meets the target requirement of50%% carbon reduction in Shanghai's construction sector.
