On July 16, the expansion project of the Jihongtan Water Plant in Chengyang District, Qingdao, undertaken by Sinohydro Bureau 9 Co., Ltd. under Power Construction Corporation of China, successfully passed completion acceptance. It will further strengthen the water supply guarantee network for the Jihongtan and Shangma areas of Chengyang District, ensuring that thousands of households continue to have access to "safe water" and "high-quality water."

The project is part of Qingdao's three-year campaign for urban renewal and urban construction. It is located west of Ao Dongbei Road and south of Hongshun Road. The scope of construction involves demolishing the original water purification plant with a capacity of 20,000 cubic meters per day and building a new water purification plant with a capacity of 100,000 cubic meters per day. The plant mainly consists of nine individual structures, including a pre-ozonation horizontal sedimentation tank, a stacked clear water tank, and a combined filter tank, with a total floor area of 130,000 square meters.

During the construction of the project, the project team aimed to build a resource-intensive and environmentally friendly "smart water plant," deeply integrating intelligent and information technologies. By adopting superimposed construction technology and other methods, and on the basis of conventional water treatment processes, they added advanced ozone-activated carbon treatment processes and new sludge treatment processes, achieving intelligent construction and refined construction management. This effectively improved land use efficiency and ensured the safety of the treated water quality, earning the project the title of Qingdao "Two-Star Smart Construction Site."

It is reported that the project conducted individual unit commissioning in May 2025 and joint water supply commissioning in June of the same year, successfully completing all milestone targets and receiving recognition and approval from the local government and the owner.

After expansion, the water plant covers an area of 32,700 square meters, with a daily water supply capacity expected to reach 100,000 cubic meters per day, an increase of approximately 9.64 times. This will greatly meet the growing water demand of the local population, promote the continuous improvement of regional water supply quality and guarantee capacity, and continuously inject more abundant and higher-quality "water momentum" into Qingdao's urban development.
