Recently, the "Funes" earth pressure open dual-mode shield tunneling machine developed by China Railway Engineering Equipment Group Co., Ltd. (CREG) was successfully launched at the Fortezza railway tunnel project in Italy, marking the project's official entry into the shield tunneling construction phase.

The Fortezza railway tunnel project is a double-tube, single-track high-speed railway tunnel, with a single machine excavating both the left and right line sections over a total tunneling length of 16.13 kilometers. Its minimum turning radius is only 280 meters, placing high demands on the shield machine's small-curve tunneling capability.

In response to the project's long-distance, small-curve-radius engineering characteristics and geological conditions, the CREG research and development team tailored the "Funes" dual-mode shield machine, which has an excavation diameter of 9.68 meters, an overall length of 144 meters, and a total weight of approximately 2,000 tons.

It is reported that once the Fortezza railway tunnel project in Italy is completed and opened to traffic, it will become an important railway trunk line connecting Verona and Fortezza in Italy, significantly improving the transport efficiency and capacity of the Fortezza route and playing a positive role in promoting local economic development.
