中国工程机械工业协会挖掘机械分会会长、柳工总裁曾光安10月17日预测，2013年中国挖掘机市场需求预计为11万台，基本与2012年持平，2014年的市场需求有望达到12万台的规模。
曾光安指出，挖掘机市场在进一步消化产能的同时，中长期来看，中国挖掘机市场在未来将达到20万台以上的市场规模，他表示，“中国依然是全球最大的挖掘机市场，未来几年中国挖掘机市场将出现稳步增长的趋势。”
从2011年5月开始，“4万亿投资”影响戛然而止，挖掘机市场需求从高位直线下滑。 曾光安称，这些过剩的产能估计需要3-5年来消化。
目前，除斗山重工、卡特彼勒、日立建机、神钢、沃尔沃等海外投资商之外，还有厦工、三一重机、柳工、徐工、中联重科及山东临工等出产挖掘机。
