Wind Power's "Strongest Duo": Zoomlion's 4,000-Ton Crane Leads the Development of Super-Heavy All-Terrain Cranes

Recently, Zoomlion's independently developed ZAT40000H7, the world's largest-tonnage all-terrain crane, successfully lifted a wind turbine into place at a wind farm installation site in Tai'an County, Anshan City, Liaoning Province. Without the assistance of an auxiliary crane, it intelligently performed one-key autonomous boom raising and adaptive telescoping, once again demonstrating the strength of this "king of all-terrain cranes" as the "best partner" for wind power hoisting.

In recent years, as the "dual carbon" strategy advances steadily, onshore wind power development has entered a new stage of "large megawatt, high tower, and complex terrain." Larger turbines, taller towers, and more complex working conditions pose unprecedented challenges to hoisting equipment.

In this hoisting project, the boom height reached 206 meters, equivalent to the height of more than 60 stories, and the combined weight of the nacelle and impeller was close to 280 tonnes. The construction site is adjacent to mountains, with narrow roads and frequent relocations. The vast majority of lifting equipment finds it difficult to fully meet the requirements in terms of lifting height, lifting capacity, and operational efficiency. This is exactly the perfect stage for Zoomlion's world's largest-tonnage 4,000-tonne all-terrain crane to show its prowess.

This is not the first time Zoomlion has set a world record. As early as 2012 and 2022, Zoomlion released 2,000-tonne and 2,400-tonne all-terrain cranes respectively, both setting the then-world's largest tonnage records. This 4,000-tonne all-terrain crane, while continuing the "world's largest" title, once again breaks through technical limits.

On what basis does this newest and largest "king of lifting" become the "best partner" for large-scale wind power construction?

First, it "can lift." The biggest challenge in wind power hoisting comes from the dual thresholds of height and weight brought by the upsizing of wind turbines. Zoomlion's world's largest-tonnage 4,000-tonne all-terrain crane, through an ultra-long main boom and innovative reinforced boom technology, achieves an overall lifting capability of up to 190 meters in height and more than 200 tonnes in lifting capacity, easily covering future installation conditions for 7MW and above wind turbines, creating technical redundancy and reserving upgrade space for the upsizing of wind power.

Second, it "moves fast." Zoomlion's 4,000-tonne all-terrain crane is the world's only 4,000-tonne crane that can meet highway driving standards. The entire machine adopts a compact chassis 22.5 meters long and 3 meters wide, which not only offers high passability to handle diverse terrains such as mountains and hills, but also complies with China's highway driving standards, enabling road travel, significantly improving construction relocation efficiency, and reducing logistics costs for cross-regional operations. At the same time, the rapid assembly and disassembly mode reduces the required assembly site area by 40%, easily coping with mountain wind farms and truly making it a "behemoth on a mobile construction site."

Third, it "works steadily." The intelligent control system of Zoomlion's world's largest-tonnage 4,000-tonne all-terrain crane is like a "smart brain." Through active flexible adaptive correction and wide-temperature-range high-precision control, it copes with complex environments such as strong winds and temperature differences from -40°C to 60°C, maintaining millimeter-level precision, just like a 200-meter-long "super fishing rod" remaining as steady as a surgeon's hand at high altitude, achieving successful alignment in one attempt and combining efficiency with safety. The entire machine also integrates more than 20 original technologies, with all key components domestically produced, ensuring stable, reliable, and safe equipment.

On the journey of wind power "going up the mountains," China's hoisting equipment is gradually transforming from "usable" to "easy to use." Zoomlion's 4,000-tonne all-terrain crane not only breaks the tonnage ceiling, but also demonstrates perfect adaptability and reshaping power for new hoisting scenarios in high-altitude operations time and again.

The ease of lifting large wind turbines reflects the accumulated strength of Zoomlion's years of technical沉淀 in super-large-tonnage cranes. And this golden combination of the "super all-terrain crane" and wind power construction is also reshaping industry standards and becoming the "strongest partner" for large-scale wind power construction.
