On June 21, the civil works of the Aba 1000 kV substation—the world's highest-altitude ultra-high-voltage substation—undertaken by Shanghai Electric Power Construction Company officially commenced.

The Aba 1000 kV substation site is located in Miyaluo Town, Li County, Sichuan Province, at an altitude of 3,620 meters, and is the starting point of the Aba–Chengdu East 1000 kV UHV AC power transmission and transformation project. The company's scope of work mainly includes foundation treatment for the substation project, civil construction and decoration of all station structures and buildings, internal roads, control systems in the pump house, and external drainage.

As a key energy infrastructure project in China's 14th Five-Year Plan, the Aba–Chengdu East 1000 kV UHV AC power transmission and transformation project starts at the Aba 1000 kV substation and ends at the Chengdu East 1000 kV substation, passing through 11 districts (counties) in 4 cities (prefectures)—Aba, Mianyang, Deyang, and Ziyang. The double-circuit line has a total length of 371.7 kilometers and is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in December 2026.

Upon completion, the project will establish a "zigzag" grid structure for the Sichuan-Chongqing UHV network, increase the power transmission capacity of the Aba region to 7,400 megawatts, meet the grid connection and transmission needs of new energy in Aba Prefecture, and lay a solid foundation for forming an interconnected and mutually supportive "three-dimensional double-ring" grid structure in the Sichuan-Chongqing region. At the same time, as a key link in the "West-to-East Power Transmission" strategy, the project will facilitate the efficient transmission of clean electricity from the western region and provide solid support for energy structure optimization and coordinated regional development in the area.
