The Liaoning Chaoyang Pumped Storage Power Station is located within Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province. The upper reservoir is situated at the head of a branch gully on the west side of Shenzhangzi Village, Lianhe Township, Longcheng District, while the lower reservoir is located on the terrace on the left bank of Laohushan River, south of Yujiadian Village, Beigoumenzi Township, Chaoyang County. It is a key implementation project of the "14th Five-Year Plan" under the national "Medium- and Long-Term Development Plan for Pumped Storage (2021-2035)." The station has a total installed capacity of 1,300 MW and is equipped with four 325 MW reversible pump-turbine generator units.

The main structures consist primarily of the upper reservoir, lower reservoir, water conveyance system, underground powerhouse and its ancillary buildings, and water supply system. Sinohydro Bureau 4 Co., Ltd. is mainly responsible for the construction of the upper reservoir project, lower reservoir project, civil works for the lower reservoir inlet/outlet and tailrace maintenance gate shaft, on-site traffic works, production and living buildings, lower reservoir clay stockpile site, metal structure installation, grounding, embedded parts and embedded pipes, civil works and finishing of surface buildings, safety monitoring works (civil works), excavation of the surface switchyard platform, and other works.

Upon completion, the project will, together with other peaking power sources, undertake tasks such as grid peak shaving, frequency regulation, energy storage, phase modulation, and emergency accident reserve. It is of great significance for promoting local infrastructure construction and economic and social development, facilitating the consumption of new energy, and helping build a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system.
