Recently, good news came from Section 1 of the São Paulo Metro Line 2 extension project in Brazil: the large-diameter earth pressure balance shield machine "CREC 1207," developed by China Railway Engineering Equipment Group (CREG), successfully completed the first-phase tunneling task of the Section 1 project.

As a key investment project of the São Paulo state government, the extension line connects Vila Prudente Station and Penha Station, with a total tunnel length of approximately 6.5 kilometers. During the first-phase construction, CREG organized an international technical service team to ensure the smooth progress of the project. During this period, the equipment efficiently completed a tunneling task of 3.7 kilometers, with a maximum daily advance of 28.5 meters, earning high praise from the client.

Next, "CREC 1207" will be dismantled on site within the VSE Falchi Gianini shaft and then transported to Penha Station, the starting point of the next construction phase. After reassembly and commissioning, the equipment will be launched from Penha Station and tunnel toward Rapadura to carry out the second-phase task of the east extension project.

It is worth noting that "CREC 1207" has an excavation diameter of 11.66 meters, making it not only the first shield machine exported by CREG to South America but also the largest-diameter shield machine ever put into use in South America to date. Once the project is completed and opened to traffic, the average daily passenger volume is expected to reach 500,000, which will effectively ease surface traffic pressure in eastern São Paulo and further promote green travel for local residents.
