Most riverside and coastal areas

high groundwater levels

belong to saturated foundations

As the strategy of building a strong transportation nation advances in depth

China's transportation route mileage continues to increase

the road network keeps becoming denser

Routes approach residential areas, precision measurement laboratories,

important factory zones, ancient cultural relic buildings, and other

vibration-sensitive units

which will cause severe vibration interference

and even lead to structural cracking and failure, among other

major safety hazards

The team of Professor Shi Li from the School of Civil Engineering at Zhejiang University of Technology

targeting environmental vibration from rail transit

focused on two major difficulties

How to predict vibration? How to control vibration?

and provided accurate and efficient application solutions

Identifying the dynamic interaction mechanisms and principles between

underground, ground-level, elevated and other

forms of rail transit and saturated soft soil

was the first thing the team needed to clarify

Shi Li said

"What is the common problem among these forms of transportation?

From our perspective as engineering and geotechnical professionals,

subway tunnels, elevated foundations, and railway embankments

are all in saturated soft soil

so the common problem lies in the transportation route foundation."

After years of research

the team proposed

the "dynamic response theory of saturated porous half-space containing heterogeneous bodies"

to answer the challenge of accurately characterizing the dynamic

interaction between complex route structures and saturated foundations

the theoretical system of dynamic coupling between linear heterogeneous bodies and saturated half-space

The team pioneered

a fully coupled vibration analytical model of

train-track-elevated bridge-pile group foundation-saturated foundation

based on the periodic structure of a three-layer composite beam of rail-track slab-bridge

forming a complete theoretical system covering the prediction of environmental vibration from

multiple modes of rail transit, including underground, ground-level, and elevated

One thing that left a deep impression on him was

in 2016

a certain city's rail transit Line 1 was being planned

and a water treatment plant was located 9 meters from one section of the route

whether the vibration generated after the line was built

would affect the equipment of the water treatment plant

became the key issue that needed to be resolved at the time

Based on theoretical predictions, the team

provided a set of solutions

In 2019, the line opened for operation

and the team went to the site again to take measurements

The monitoring results were all within the ranges stipulated by national regulations

Subsequently, the team further developed

a method for controlling environmental vibration from rail transit based on periodic structures

ultimately forming a rail transit environmental vibration prediction theory of

"full coupling analysis and full-chain resolution"

and a rail transit environmental vibration control method of

"targeted frequency-tuning vibration reduction and multi-measure integrated vibration control"

In November 2024

the project completed under the leadership of the team,

"Dynamic Response Theory of Saturated Porous Media under Moving Sources

and Periodic Structure Vibration Reduction and Isolation Methods"

won the second prize of the Provincial Natural Science Award

"Dynamic Response Theory of Saturated Porous Media under Moving Sources

and Periodic Structure Vibration Reduction and Isolation Methods"

is a fundamental scientific research innovation achievement

obtained by the team in response to the major needs of urban rail transit infrastructure

for environmental effect prevention and control and green development

and has been applied to multiple major projects in China

In the future, the team will continueto devote itself deeply to

the field of rail transit environmental vibration

and contribute scientific research wisdom and technical strength

to the building of a strong transportation nation
