On April 12-13, the Second Wang Sijing Lecture of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME) and the Fourth Shaoxing International Symposium on Rock Mechanics and Engineering Geology were successfully held at the Fengzejiang Grand Lecture Hall of Shaoxing University.

Academician He Manchao, Party Secretary and Chairman of CSRME, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

Chairman He Manchao extended warm congratulations on the convening of this symposium. He pointed out that Mr. Wang Sijing was the chairman of the fourth council of the Society and the founder of China's engineering geomechanics theory, making outstanding contributions to the development of engineering geology, environmental geology, and rock mechanics and engineering in China. He emphasized that the Society established the "Wang Sijing Lecture" to carry forward Mr. Wang's scientific spirit while implementing the concept of "open science," organizing academic discussions around Academician Wang Sijing's academic thought, promoting the deep integration and prosperous development of rock mechanics and engineering geology disciplines, and advancing theoretical innovation and practical application of engineering geomechanics. He noted that the host institution, Shaoxing University, after years of cultivation, has developed into an academic stronghold for engineering geomechanics research, and he expressed gratitude to the host institution and the conference organizers. He hoped that the participating experts and scholars would engage in lively academic exchange and discussion in the fields of rock mechanics and engineering geology, spark ideas through academic碰撞, strive to overcome key core technologies, solve more "bottleneck" technical problems and scientific challenges in engineering geomechanics, and contribute to the nation's high-level scientific and technological self-reliance in the field of rock mechanics and engineering.

Through the special video "Wang Sijing and Engineering Geomechanics," the attending delegates jointly reviewed and studied the exemplary life of Academician Wang Sijing. Professor Wu Faquan delivered a keynote report titled "Wang Sijing and Engineering Geomechanics," systematically introducing, from three aspects—Mr. Wang Sijing's footsteps, the development of engineering geomechanics, and Wang Sijing's scientific spirit—Mr. Wang's unique way of thinking in exploring engineering geomechanics, his integration of the comprehensive theory of engineering geomechanics, and his leadership ofChina's engineering geologyonto the international stage, praising Mr. Wang's scientific spirit of fulfilling his mission, serving the motherland, tirelessly seeking truth, and vigorously supporting younger scholars.

Members of the Society's "3+1" leadership team, Executive Chairman of the ISRM Chinese National Group and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Zhu Hehua; Vice Chairmen of the Society and Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Zhou Chuangbing and Du Shigui; National Engineering Survey and Design Masters Zhang Wei, Xu Zailiang, and Jiang Jianliang; Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Ranjith P. Gamage; internationally renowned rock mechanics scholar and Fellow of the International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering Nick Barton; former IAEG President Rafig Azzam; IAEG Outstanding Young Engineering Geologist Award recipient Haris Saroglou; Party Secretary of Zhejiang University of Technology Cai Yuanqiang; President of Chang'an University Sha Aimin; President of Taiyuan University of Science and Technology Liang Weiguo; Vice President of Tongji University Shi Zhenming; Vice President of Chang'an University Fan Wen; leaders of the host institution Shaoxing University Zhao Yang, Hu Yunjin, and Huang Man, among others, attended the meeting. More than 500 representatives from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhejiang University, Tongji University, China University of Geosciences, Hohai University, Chang'an University, Ningbo University, Chengdu University of Technology, Xi'an Jiaotong University, North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power, and other institutions participated in the on-site meeting, with 73,000 views of the video and text live broadcast. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Ji Jian, Dean of the School of Civil Engineering at Shaoxing University. President Zhao Yang of the host institution Shaoxing University extended a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the experts and scholars attending the symposium. He believed that the convening of this academic conference would surely play an important role in promoting the innovative development of rock mechanics and engineering geology disciplines and in advancing the construction of the university's School of Civil Engineering. He hoped that the participating experts and scholars would offer valuable advice and guidance for the construction and development of Shaoxing University, especially the construction of the civil engineering discipline.
