On April 12, 2025, the scientific and technological achievement evaluation meeting on "Safe and Efficient Complete Technology for Three-Tunnel Three-Dimensional Parallel Shield Construction in Water-Rich Sand Strata" organized by the Jiangsu Society for Rock and Soil Mechanics and Engineering was held in Nanjing. The evaluation committee was chaired by Academician Wang Mingyang of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, with Professor Liu Songyu of Southeast University and Professor Gao Yufeng of Hohai University serving as vice chairs. Committee experts included: Professor Yan Changhong of Nanjing University, Professor Wang Yuan of Suzhou University of Science and Technology, Professor-level Senior Engineer Hu Mingliang of Jiangsu Jiangnan Construction Technology Development Co., Ltd., and Professor-level Senior Engineer Wang Huaidong of China Railway Sixth Survey and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd.Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Professor Wang Yuan presided over the meeting. Dean Wei Yang of the School of Civil Engineering of Nanjing Forestry University, Professor Yang Ping, Associate Professor Zhang Ting, and Associate Professor Wang Jiahui, as well as Professor-level Senior Engineer Zhou Feng, Senior Engineer Cheng Ziyang, and Senior Engineer Zhu Gang of the Eighth Engineering Co., Ltd. of CCCC First Highway Engineering Group, attended the meeting. On behalf of the project completion unit, Dean Wei Yang of the School of Civil Engineering delivered a welcome speech, thanking the evaluation committee experts for taking time from their busy schedules to attend and provide guidance, and especially thanking Academician Wang Mingyang, Professor Liu Songyu, Professor Gao Yufeng, and other experts, as well as the Jiangsu Society for Rock and Soil Mechanics and Engineering, for their long-term concern and strong support for the discipline development and graduate student training of the School of Civil Engineering. He also briefly introduced to the experts the development characteristics and advantages of the school's civil engineering discipline.
Associate Professor Wang Jiahui, a member of Professor Yang Ping's team at Nanjing Forestry University, presented the achievement report on behalf of the project team. The project was led by Professor Yang Ping of Nanjing Forestry University, which formed an R&D team with the Eighth Engineering Co., Ltd. of CCCC First Highway Engineering Group and other units. Targeting shield construction technical challenges faced by rail transit, such as water-rich sand strata, long distances, three tunnels in close three-dimensional parallel arrangement, and large longitudinal slopes with small radii, and relying on the Suzhou Rail Transit Line 8 project, the team conducted systematic research using a combination of theoretical research, numerical simulation, and on-site measurement. A series of innovative achievements were made in aspects including water-stop and deformation coordinated control technology for launching and receiving of three tunnels in water-rich sand strata, safe and efficient tunneling and deformation control technology for three-dimensional parallel shield tunneling, efficient tunneling and anti-seepage technology for long-distance continuous crossing of water-rich sand strata, and control technology for segment floating and misalignment in shield construction of large longitudinal slope small-radius S-curves. The project has been granted 21 patents, formed 1 provincial-level construction method and 2 enterprise-level construction methods, led the compilation of 1 group standard, published 32 papers, and published 1 monograph. It has been widely applied in more than 10 rail transit lines in cities such as Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Fuzhou, and Hangzhou. The application of the innovative achievements overcame the difficulties of sand and water inrush prevention and deformation control during launching and receiving, achieved efficient tunneling and precise deformation control for three tunnels in close three-dimensional parallel arrangement in water-rich sand strata, overcame the difficulties of severe tool wear, easy shield tail leakage, and shield tail brush replacement during long-distance continuous tunneling in water-rich sand strata, and solved the difficulties of rapid segment assembly and effective control of floating and misalignment. It provides technical support for similar projects such as long-distance underwater crossing of water-rich sand strata by shield and close three-dimensional parallel construction, with significant economic, social, and environmental benefits and broad prospects for promotion and application.
The evaluation committee experts listened to the project team's report, reviewed the relevant materials, and after questioning, discussion, and deliberation, unanimously agreed that the project's research achievements have reached the international leading level. On behalf of the project team, Professor Yang Ping expressed sincere gratitude to the society for its careful organization and to the attending experts for their guidance, and stated that the scientific and technological achievements will be further improved according to the opinions of the evaluation committee and that relevant science and technology awards will be applied for.
