On March 24, the diversion tunnel of the upper reservoir of the State Grid Xinyuan Jiangxi Fengxin Pumped Storage Power Station project, constructed by Sinohydro Bureau 12, was successfully holed through, marking a phased victory in the construction of the upper reservoir of the Jiangxi Fengxin Pumped Storage Power Station and laying a solid foundation for the upper reservoir to achieve this year's cofferdam closure and dam filling goals.

The diversion tunnel of the project's upper reservoir has a total length of 995 meters, with a net cross-section size of 2.5 meters by 2.5 meters. Since entering the tunnel on April 5, 2024, the Jiangxi Fengxin Project Department, through meticulous organization and coordinated arrangements, has implemented daily and per-cycle scheduling work, urged specialized teams to adopt a "three-shift" work system, and with the strong support of relevant units, overcome many difficulties such as complex surrounding rock conditions caused by shallow burial depth and excessive seepage. After 354 days of hard work, the key construction task was completed within the scheduled time, achieving both the project milestone schedule and safe production without compromise.

The Jiangxi Fengxin Pumped Storage Power Station project is located in Luoshi Town and Huibu Town, Fengxin County, Jiangxi Province. It is a key project in the national and Jiangxi Province "14th Five-Year Plan" energy plans, and is also the second large-scale water conservancy project under construction in Jiangxi Province. The power station is a Class I large (1) type project, a daily-regulation pure pumped storage power station with a total installed capacity of 1,200 megawatts, equipped with four single-stage vertical-shaft mixed-flow reversible pump-turbine generator units each with a unit capacity of 300 megawatts. Its average annual power generation is 1.2 billion kilowatt-hours, and its annual pumped-storage power consumption is 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours. It can reduce raw coal consumption by 220,000 tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 450,000 tons per year, with a total investment of 7.639 billion yuan. Sinohydro Bureau 12 is mainly responsible for construction tasks including the upper and lower reservoir works, the upper and lower reservoir water intake and outlet structures, metal structure fabrication and installation works, and infrastructure digitalization.

After the power station is completed, it will effectively enhance the regulation capacity of the Jiangxi power grid, be of great significance to promoting the rapid and sustainable development of the local economy and improving people's living standards, and also play an important role in accelerating Jiangxi Province's efforts to build a national model area for ecological civilization construction. At the same time, the construction of the power station can also drive local infrastructure construction and the development of related industries, and is expected to boost local GDP by more than 19.7 billion yuan, with good economic and social benefits.
