On March 25, the commencement ceremony for the Gansu–Zhejiang ±800 kV UHV DC transmission line project (Henan section), the world's first UHV flexible DC project, for which Hubei Engineering Company is providing supervision services, was held simultaneously in Nanyang and Xinyang, Henan Province.

The Gansu–Zhejiang ±800 kV UHV DC project is the world's first UHV flexible DC project (the world's first cross-regional UHV DC transmission project adopting flexible DC transmission technology at both the sending and receiving ends), and is also a key project in China's 14th Five-Year Plan for power development. The project starts in Wuwei, Gansu and ends in Shaoxing, Zhejiang, passing through six provinces (autonomous regions) — Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Henan, Anhui and Zhejiang — with a total line length of 2,370 kilometers.

As an important channel for "green power transmission" from large-scale wind and photovoltaic bases in desert, gobi and wasteland areas, the project, by strengthening research on core flexible DC technologies and exploring flexible DC operation and control standards suited to high-proportion renewable energy transmission, will serve as a pilot and demonstration for subsequent high-proportion renewable energy transmission projects such as large wind and photovoltaic bases in deserts, gobis and wastelands. After the project is put into operation, it can transmit more than 36 billion kWh of electricity to Zhejiang each year, of which green power accounts for more than 50 percent; it can promote the consumption of more than 21.2 billion kWh of renewable energy annually, replace 6.4 million tons of coal consumption, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 17 million tons.

Hubei Engineering Company supervises Package 6 of the line section of the Gansu–Zhejiang ±800 kV UHV DC project. The line route spans two prefecture-level cities, Nanyang and Xinyang, in Henan Province, passing in sequence through eight county-level administrative regions including Tongbai County. The line has a total length of 256.575 kilometers, with 532 new towers to be built.
