On March 12 local time, a developer consortium comprising Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA), Saudi International Power and Water Company (ACWA Power), Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), and Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) signed EPC contracts for the Rumah1 and Nairyah1 combined-cycle power plant projects in Saudi Arabia. Yasir, Executive Vice President of Business Development at ACWA Power; Alharbi, Vice President of EICC, a subsidiary of SEC; Seongjin Kim, Sales Director of South Korea's Doosan Group; and Zhu Jing, POWERCHINA's Country Representative for Saudi Arabia, attended the signing ceremony.
The Rumah1 power plant is located approximately 80 kilometers east of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with an installed capacity of 1,800 megawatts. The Nairyah1 power plant is located approximately 50 kilometers north of Al Nairyah in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province, with an installed capacity of 1,800 megawatts. POWERCHINA and South Korea's Doosan formed a consortium to undertake construction of the above projects. The Rumah1 and Nairyah1 power plants are key projects launched under Saudi Arabia's "Vision 2030," aimed at addressing growing electricity demand, improving the power mix, enhancing the grid's peak-shaving capability, and ensuring the safe and stable operation of the power grid. The successful implementation of the projects will greatly enhance Saudi Arabia's power supply capacity, optimize its power mix, and inject strong momentum into the sustainable development of the country's economy and society.
Since entering the Saudi engineering contracting market in 2009, POWERCHINA has undertaken numerous large-scale engineering projects with outstanding technical strength, excellent on-site execution capabilities, and efficient project management, earning widespread acclaim. The Rumah1 and Nairyah1 power plant projects signed this time mark the second time POWERCHINA has secured two large gas-fired combined-cycle power plant projects in Saudi Arabia, following its successful signing of the Taiba1 and Qassim1 combined-cycle power plant projects in 2024. This not only demonstrates POWERCHINA's strong competitiveness in Saudi Arabia's energy market, but also sets an example for Chinese enterprises' "going global" strategy and further enhances POWERCHINA's brand influence and competitiveness.
Personnel from ACWA Power, SEC, South Korea's Doosan Group, POWERCHINA's Middle East and North Africa Regional Headquarters, and SEPCOIII attended the signing ceremony.
