Recently, the Xianghe Water Conservancy Hub and Supporting Irrigation District Project in Tibet, a major national water conservancy project undertaken by Sinohydro Bureau 9 Co., Ltd. under Power Construction Corporation of China, successfully passed completion acceptance, and will provide solid and reliable clean energy support for local development.

The project is located in Namling County, Shigatse City, Tibet Autonomous Region. It is one of the 172 major water-saving and water-supply projects designated by the State Council, and is also listed as one of the six key backbone projects in the 13th Five-Year Plan for Water Conservancy Reform and Development of the Tibet Autonomous Region. The project tasks mainly focus on irrigation, water supply, and improving the ecological environment of nature reserves, while also taking power generation into account. The maximum dam height of the Xianghe Reservoir is 51 meters, with a total storage capacity of 113.4 million cubic meters and an irrigation area of 124,900 mu, including an irrigation water supply volume of 62.76 million cubic meters. The main construction tasks of the hub project include the power station powerhouse and its four supporting generating units, the water diversion and power generation tunnel, the asphalt concrete core wall sand-gravel dam, the high slopes at the inlet and outlet, the diversion and flood discharge tunnel, the spillway tunnel, the access tunnel, and the ecological fishway.

Building water conservancy projects benefits the people. As a leading project for the local implementation of the rural revitalization strategy, the project, once completed, will not only economically and efficiently meet the water requirements of the irrigation district, livestock, and industry, but also effectively improve the ecological environment and the habitat conditions of black-necked cranes in the buffer and core zones of the downstream Aimagang and Yangcun irrigation districts and the Yarlung Tsangpo River middle reaches valley national nature reserve for black-necked cranes. Since formal commissioning for power generation, the project has cumulatively generated 189 million kWh, playing an important role in promoting the sustainable economic and social development of Shigatse and even the entire region.
