The Mianzhu Pumped Storage Power Station project, planned and designed by PowerChina Chengdu Engineering Corporation, has recently been approved for construction. This is the first approved pumped storage power station on the load side in Sichuan Province, and also the first large-scale pumped storage project in Sichuan to receive approval since the implementation of the Energy Law.

Chengdu Engineering Corporation completed the pre-feasibility study design of the Mianzhu Pumped Storage Power Station in December 2022, and carried out the survey and design for the feasibility study stage in January 2023. The station has an installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts and is a Class I large (1) project. The construction period is 87 months. After completion, the station is expected to generate 1.759 billion kWh of electricity annually, enough to supply 2 million people. It can save 317,000 tons of standard coal per year, which is of positive significance for promoting low-carbon economic development and ecological benefits in Sichuan Province. During the construction period, the project will drive approximately 12 billion yuan in new GDP for Sichuan Province.

The approval and construction of the Mianzhu Pumped Storage Power Station marks an important step for Sichuan in the field of clean energy and will inject new momentum into energy security and sustainable economic development in the southwestern region. Once completed, the project will become a landmark project for energy structure adjustment and green development in Sichuan and even the entire southwestern region.
